From the CTP MkII

First Impression: 6. It's low-key. I love low-key. Low-key rocks.
Composition: 8. I don't think I'd have it any other way.
Subject: 5. Personally, I'm not too wild over "camera" photos. Also, yeah, I know it's old, but it doesn't look old. So maybe that's what pulled your score down. DPC-folk tend to look for the obvious when voting in challenges.
Technical: 8. Whatever you did, you did right. No complaints.
Improvement: As to the way you shot the photo, nothing. Well, maybe minor nitpicks but nothing too important. As to your score, I guess you shoulda included a nude girl or explosions or a flower in the composition. That would be received well by the voters.
Summary: Yeah, I too guess you didn't deserve that score. I wish I could bump the score I gave you up... just to compensate.

This shot does NOT deserve this placing. 4.5's are reserved for photos with not much technical and/or creative merit. This has both of those and then some. It's a superb shot of the camera! The focus and detail are spot on, as well as the creative lighting you used which gives some nice white reflections on the grip part and the side showing the texture. I too really wonder why the low score. There were a lot of entries in this challenge, and with that number I think some people move a little faster and are looking for the "eye candy" shots. I personally gave it a 6, and probably would've bumped it to a 7 had I gone back and looked at the entries a second time like I normally do. I see the "old" to it, I have an old Canon Elan which is almost the same camera. It's a great shot, and I'm sorry to see the final placement. You do really good work, don't let this score get you down.

Ya, you were robbed. I'm not saying this is Top 10, but 4.5? Get real. The technicals are excellent. It is off center, well lit, sharply focused, etc. Other 4.5 shots only dream of such good technicals. I would have given this a 6 or a 7. It is not 8-10 material because it lacks oomph. We see a nicely done product shot, but the picture fails to engage us with anything else. We see the camera in our minds eye, turn it over for a second, and then move on. I will agree with some of the other people who commented in the thread that this looks too "new". Sure it's old, but I think the voter wanted to see scratched and broken. I was even worried in my shot that the tractor looked too new and think I only got away with it because of the moody sky which lent an "old" feel to the picture.

The picture is not a bad picture at all as what the score seems to reflect. As previously posted alot of your technical aspects were on track. Alot of people may not realize the camera is really that old. The camera's condition is in great shape so it looks new. I am slowly learning that you have to be very obvious to voters to get your point across, or just plain WOW them to get good scores. Many people take only a moment or two to vote and then move on so it is important they get the idea right away and it leaves an impact. The main thing with this is gonna be many people don't visually "see" old in this picture.
Hope this if of some help.

I understand your concept, but I don't think it's quite in the spirit of the challenge.

Nice job, great lighting, good contrast. Had an idea for something similar for an old OM-1 camera but didn't use it.
