Challenge: Refraction of Light (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Tamron SP AF 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6 AD Aspherical IF for Nikon
Location: Overland Park Arboretum, Kansas
Date: Apr 3, 2006
Galleries: Water
Date Uploaded: Apr 4, 2006

Cropped off right side a little to get rid of some blown specks in the water, and then a little of the left to rebalance the composition. Sharpened, levels(black point selcted on rigt shadow), hue/sat, save for web.

I loved the way the light was streaming through onto the rock and creating the tiger stripes on it. Hope you guys do too.

Coming from my 1-4-0 thread ...

Steve, this type of shot isn't my favourite and it took me a moment to realise quite what it was (I was thinking abstract). IMHO thats a good thing as I spent more time viewing the shot. Looking at the commenters average vote of 7.889 you have a decent market for this type of work.

If the water was right I'd have preferred the protuding rock to have been in the bottom third of the shot but I guess thats a size of image issue?

I live at the seaside, and often photograph on the beach, but this is better than I have been able to shoot. I think it seems to have a touch of sunset about it, and seem to see colour refractions from the light rainbowing the bent rocks under the water - very effective! I think some movement of the ripples has been caught, which drags the image of the rocks and extends them, and you have chosen just the right length of exposure.

Very nice image on all counts, and just a lovely level of contrast and juxtaposition of sharpnesses

Hope you do well

Nice color, textures and composition.
Much more pleasing than all the still life studio shots I see here.
Very nice job

This could have probably also worked well in textures. Nice.
