 I borrowed a Galileo thermometer from a friend and got down to work. The only problem was that as soon as I put any lights on to it, the glass baubles sunk.... aargh. Oh well, it got me to speed up my act ;-)
Used a Canon 250D close-up lens on my Nikkor 60 mm Micro to get as close as I could.
Adjusted contrast, cropped and resized in ACDSee 6.0.
Noise Ninja.

I didn't realize this was yours during the macro challenge - I stumbled across it this weekend.

A weekend or two ago, I decided to shoot similar, and became captivated with the colors. We have a version of such a thermometer, and I decided to lay it horizontally in the grass. The colors are so rich inside.

Altbough an odd angle, one of my favorite images for the color:
