I love this picture. I love the still and clear reflection of the pool in the background and the motion captured in the foreground. Beautiful photograph--I've tried to do photos like this, but not with such success.

Really cool shot here. The fact that you kept the small pond in the frame makes all the difference. I like the color a lot where the water starts to make its way from the pond to those first three falls. Lovely work and deserving of the great score.

Congrats on the recognition for this well deserving photo. When I saw the challenge results I thought it should have ribboned especially with the whole "2 second scam".

A perfect set of three waterfalls. Personally, i like the touch of warmth in the reflection at the top of the falls to contrast with the cold blue of the ice and water. Great finish.

Now if you just had a pug in an inflatable kayak...

Linda - Great job! Nice 3rd, in my mind, and keep up the pug shots too! I think photographing pugs is what makes you original, so don't stop because others are tired of them! You'll get your ribbon soon!

Congrats on the top 5 finish.

Imagine what could've been if everyone entered only 2sec exposures.

Congratulations on breaking the "7" barrier and finishing 5th. Higher scores are getting more difficult to achieve. Yours is one of my personal top three for this challenge. It is a great image in every way.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. The "see and no Pug" comments really are kind out there as if you look through my portfolio - MOST my shots do not contain pugs. So please, give me a break on the pug comments and leave them just on the merits of this shot itself. Sorry if I sound sour on that, just felt the need to say it.

doctornick - I only wish this had ribboned. I myself do not understand why the words "exactly 2 seconds" were put in the challenge details if they were not going to be upheld. So be it. I had fun shooting this and it's my highest score to date. :-)

Linda, this is SO awesome!!!!! Congratulations on 5th place. In so many other challenges, your 7.005 score would have easily won blue! What an outstanding finish for such a tough challenge!!!!! It just seems that 7's ought to ribbon, huh? :)

03/27/2006 07:03:38 AM
Now THIS is a lovely shot. And NO PUG! I am very happy to see that, and your placement is very well received. I love this shot. Nicely done!!!

I also agree with fotomann. If a waterfall shot was to win the blue, it should have been one entered using 2 seconds and in the true spirit of the challenge. Kudo's to you on this Shutterpug! :)

You got totally screwed out of this ribbon. So, technically, you deserve a ribbon and some others don't. So, in my book, you got a ribbon on this.

Of all the waterfalls in the challenge, yours was the best. Sorry it didn't climb a little higher, hope to see you among the top 3 real soon.
Edit. How anyone can vote under 5 for this photograph is beyond me. Send those trolls where they belong.

7 - Very nice. Depending what is there/you had to work with perhaps more trees at the top and less 'fore' may have given this a really strong edge - but I realize quite a different shot to what you have. The balance and the contrasting textures and colors make it seem like there is/was good potential 'there'. A more finely tuned crop on the left too. Like the ice sheet 'canopy' on the right.

Very nice photo. I like the framing and the detail in this shot. Nice exposure on the snow too. This is one of my top picks for this challenge. My only negative criticism is that the framing at the top of the shot feels a little awkward, but I can't quite figure out why. Maybe the crop is too tight? Or maybe it is the perspective of being at eye level with the lake. Anyway, good luck!

Nice shot but I am not really fond of the composition, feels a little cramped for my taste and my eye really wants to wander to the lake and shore in the backround instead of on the moving water. Other than that pretty good :)

love the contrast of the "motion" of the water against the stationary rock, ice and snow. The water really feels liquid, esp. right before it goes over the falls. I also like that you are on the same level as the lake surface. Only thing that I personally find a wee bit distracting is the water dead center at the bottom, it seems to start from nowhere and my eyes keep returning to it to find the source. I love waterfall pics and this on is nicely done. Good Luck
