Challenge: 2-Second Exposure (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: challenge entries
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 12-24mm f/4.0G IF-ED
Location: Billerbeck
Date: Mar 17, 2006
Aperture: 5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 2
Galleries: Interior, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Mar 17, 2006

Taking a leaf from Rikki, this is entry number 59. This was taken in the Billerbeck church about 10 kilometers from here. The church is very dark inside which made a long shutter speed shot ideal. This is a new kind post processing I am experimenting with in 16 bit mode which allows more leverage with the dynamic range.

When I use RawShooter Premium, I export to 16bit mode but I find that Photoshop Elements forces me back to 8bit when I try to use levels.

I am not familiar with PS Elements but in PS it is possible to use all the adjustment functions (incl. levels) in 16 bit and about half of the available filters.

Would never have guessed this was yours. :)
Cool processing, I bet this looks even better printed on specific papers/canvas.

4th place :) Another green ribbon. But looking at the quality of the first 3 photos in this challenge I am honored to get 4th place gladly. Thank you for all the comments during the challenge. It was an interesting challenge to observe, especially the score which dipped below 7.000 about 7 or 8 times during the whole week :)

About the post processing which many have asked about, it is just something I experimenting at in 16 bit mode which I still have to refine. I will write more about it once I got my hooks into it properly!

Would you share the "new kind of post processing?" Much appreciated; if judging for this challenge had meta data - you would have ribbon'd.

Marvelous ... almost looks like a sanctuary in a high quality video game, I mean that as a compliment ... I think. Wonderful perspective, just not sure about the unreal feeling.

4 - Very nice shot, scene, architecture and perspective. Well composed and balanced ('lines' seem near spot on). Criticism; mainly the pp/effects - a bit too strong for this scene in my opinion (although it lends itself well to it & does grow on you). edit:rephrased & condensed

This is a fantastic photo, with great tones and very nice composition. What I've been looking fo in this challenge is dramatic use of the 2 second exposure. I think that you could have achieved this great result with almost any reasonable shutter speed. The 2 second exposure hasn't added any dramatic effect for me in this otherwise amazing shot.

Has the strong look of a PS filter, but I like the grittyness and detail. Compostion is stellar. Very nice!

Nice work on the post processing, love the "look" of the image. However the feeling I get from the picture is that there is something missing, some action or something going on, a figure standing there or something. Like it as it is though, gave it a 7.
