Ohhhh, another self portait...whoo :-P
Okay, I just REEEAALLY wanted to enter this, and we happened to have some peacock feathers around. My glasses are not bifocals, as I'm sure many will point out ;-) My dad has bifocals but they're not the kind were you can tell. Besides, they looked pretty goofy on me. The background is my very professional studio setup (a piece of black velvet draped over a boogie board). I tried to edit out the reflections on the glass, but theirs still a little I couldn't get.
But, anyhow...I hope this will get me out of my rut with a decent score, but if it doesn't, that's okay. I had fun with it, atleast :-)

Greetings from the Critique Club

What a beautiful image you have presented for the Pick Two Challenge.

Certainly you were well rewarded for your care and consideration of the technicals - as well as composition.

Obviously, there is little I can to by way of 'critique' except add to the comments that tell you of "a job well done."

However, I will suggest, that for your benefit and the benefit of those who would like to learn from this image, that you do fill in the blanks with the camera settings you used. Those of us in the Critique Club continue to encourage all users who ask for a Critique to do this little chore.

Again,well done.

Alice

Ooh... I was sure this would be a ribbon, but it didn't even make the top 10. :-(

Still, an excellent portrait. Nice job!

How do you get red in a peacock feather? I've never, ever seen one that colour before.

Pretty! Is there something on the left side of the picture? Can't quite tell but doesn't appear to add to it.

Nice picture Annah... should finish well in the challenge despite the fact you cheated by not using bi-focals! ;)

I like this shot. I rated it pretty high. Only nitpick I have with is there seems to be some sort of jaggie thing going on with the eyes... maybe it's just me, though...

This is a well done portrait in terms of overall composition, lighting, exposure. I think it would work better if her hair was pulled back as it is too similar in texture and tonality to the feather and creates visual confusion. Also, though I realize that bifocals were one of the choices, this doesn't seem to be a good creative choice to me. Her eyes are luminous and the glasses detract from that and they don't make sense in the context of the glamourous nature of the portrait that the peacock feather imbues. If it were just a portrait of the girl, the glasses would work because they tell the viewer something about the subject. But the feather makes this less of a personal portrait and more a statement about the photographer's creative idea so I feel the viewer should see the girl as an anonymous character they can project their own imagination onto. Does this make sense?

I love the variations in red/brown hues. The glasses bring attention to a killer set of eyes and the feather covering the mouth emphesizes words softly spoken. There's one thing in the shot that my eye gets drawn to that seems a distraction and that's the bit of background showing at the upper left. Maybe intentional, maybe not. Either way, very well done.

Very nicely done, one of my favourites for this challenge. Only one criticism, and that is some blemishing in the top left corner of the photo thats a little distracting. Could have been burnt out easily to make that part totally black. (It may not show on your monitor, however) Still gets an 8 from me. Good luck!

Beautiful eyes and a wonferful way to hint at a pretty mouth. I wish the specs were on a little more straight. That's the only thing distracting at all.
Congratulations.
