I wasn't planning of entering but then I've always wanted to try a new technique (a tribute to some of JPR's dark imagery). Shot inside a dark storage room in the office. Thanks to my buddy Mike who held the remote switch on while it was set to bulb mode. Yes, I am the model ;)

This is not how I think of the afterlife. But I realized that most will probably enter an image that is bright and has to do with angels and heavens. So I decided to do something dark like this. The idea here is to present what it would be like in Purgatory which is "a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God's grace are not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions."

The scores are out the window for this one. I am trying a new technique so the "hell" with the scores for now. I am just curious what kind of comments I'll be receiving throughout the week. It should be fun!

Cheers all!

Shot in RAW and processed with RSE. Slight rotation and crop. Adjusted brightness and contrast, curves and levels, and a bit of highlight and shadows. Crop and saved for web. Oh how I wish this was advanced editing ;)

Set-up:

I basically used 3 images. Two of the images are clearly visible in the entry. The third image was just a red to orange gradiation I created in PS. I taped all three images on the wall one on top of another. Set the camera on manual exposure and had my buddy Mike hang on the the remote cord as I set it on bulb mode. I turned off the lights and Mike depressed the shutter and kept it open. I then used a flashlight and painted the first image for about 2 seconds. Turned the light off and peeled off the first image. After 10 seconds, I turned the flashlight on again and painted the second image for 2 seconds. Turned off the flashlight. With the second image still up, I positioned myself on the left and lit my face for about a second. Turn off the lights for another 10 seconds. Peeled off the second image to reveal the third one then painted the other one again for 2 seconds. Lights off. Positioned myself on the right hand side and lit my face again for another second. Turn off lights for a few more seconds.

Here is the original image.

Shot in RAW and processed with RSE. Slight rotation and crop. Adjusted brightness and contrast, curves and levels, and a bit of highlight and shadows. Ran through Neat Image as I accidentally set it to ISO 1600!!! Crop and saved for web.

I'm suprised this shot didn't finish higher. In my eyes it was the best in the challenge. Better luck next time but congratulations to the top 20 finish.

I thinks you've got a frightening image which evokes strong feelings and grabs the attention of the viewer. I thinks it's great that your not following the crowd "Heavenly" but rather being different from the masses. Great shot.
