Aperture: F2.9
ISO: 64
Shutter: 1/125 secs

Date Uploaded: Jan 29, 2006

Photo was taken just around the corner from Manchester central library. I had to wait around for ages in the freezing cold for the sunlight (This is England were talking about) to finally burst through the grey clouds, and fall upon the stone pillars.

I was out shooting alone, and waiting for a person to walk through took an age.

Post editing included...

Contrast/Brightness
Colour balance
A fiddle with the channel mixer

Brilliant capture. The tones are well kept, though I would like to see a version in less bright light. The shadows are excellent and the composition is wonderful. The street sign stops the boredom on the left hand side whilst the leading lines nudge you over to the left. Very well balanced.

Steady there Brett, you might just burst a blood vessel. I disrespect the wonderful community of dpc for not getting round to filling in my comments yet? A little dramatic there wouldn't you say? I'll put them up shortly though :) In the meantime, may I recommend Camomile tea

I abhour your disrespect for the community in seeking their votes and then not even bothering to put your camera details and no comments to share.

Awesome exposure. I'd love to see a little grain in this... but I'm sure I'm in the minority. Great job on that tonal range. Judging by your portfolio, you're very strong with b&w, and that makes me happy. Congrats on the ribbon!

Thank you so much everybody for commenting and voting on my photo. Due to this being my first entry in such a long long time, my main aim was to make the top 50, maybe get a 6 under my belt. To get the result that I did has truly astonished me.

Thanks again

congratulations on your ribbon, and a great shot! Nice lines leading to the focal point of the composition. I would just crop it on the left a little bit farther from the street sign.

Great photograph. The exposure is perfect, probably a challenge to nail with the bright lights of the hall. I like how this photo leads you through it, and the person standing at the end is a very nice detail.

This is a very nice perspective shot ... remember this place the next time a perspective challenge comes up. It's weird that even though the main at the end of the arches is definitely placed off-centre, the illusion created by the shadows of the arches makes it look like he has climbed stairs and is approaching the centre of the photo ... but don't worry, I'm not taking marks off because my eyes are being fooled. Overall, very nice shot. Good tonal range. Lots of interest.

Nice, dynamic shot. Putting the gallery off-center is justified by including the street sign into the frame. Conversion to B&W is also justified. Not sure about the main in the end of the gallery.
