This brazen California pelican swam up to the back of my boat as I was docking it back on the trailer. I grabbed my camera and snapped off some shots while he sat there glaring at me as if to say... "Alright shutterbug, you got your pics now fork over the fish!".

Congratulations on your great finish. Deserved even higher!

Thanks everyone who voted. Special thanks to those who took the time to comment. Most either loved the center comp, square crop or hated it. I'm not a big fan of center comps myself but I experimented with everything imaginable before submitting and it just seemed to look better for this particular shot. Thanks again.

I love the attitude in this shot, and when I then read your title I laughed - very appropriate. The composition is good and the simple blue background works really well to keep the focus on the bird. Well done!

This really is a lovely image. The clenaness form the still water tot he sharp focus. It's like the bird floated right up to you for the picture.
Nice job.

Nice eye contact. Almost looks like he is scowling at me.

Great capture of the birds eyes on this photo. The composition seems rather harshly centered, the square crop doesn't help this any.

I don't know why but I love this. I like the almost straight on view of the long beak and beady eyes. Nice! 8

Ya don't often see the pelican from the front-on angle in a photo. Definitely a unique pose - and one that works well here. Beautiful reflection too (although I'd love to see more of it). Great focus and color. 9

great shot! WOW! love the smoothness of the water and the sharpness...probably would have likes a little less crop on the bottom, but shots like this just happen and you can't do mauch...love the colour and contrast...this should do well

what if you cropped in on each side leaving a more vertical format enhancing the height of the pelican? and length of its beak? -8-

7 - Very nice. Criticism; the reflection included is another shot again so won't 'go there'. The pose and eyes are very good in this, like your title too. Really only the 'blown'/overexposed parts on the head/crown, some of the beak/bill and the eye. Perhaps a little sharper, but difficult. Like the composition and 640 x 640.
