My own hand of course - nobody hurt shooting this one. I was watching a 'True Crime' show when reading the challenge and 20 minutes later....

Dirt and grime created by olive oil, paprika and coffee - interesting combination of odours :-)

I wanted to try a shot with both hands ,but it was all a bit too much trouble trying to work the camera with my hands tied together

Thanks to all for your helpful and useful comments. This website is a very strong spur to higher photographic acheivements.

Putting images up for scrutiny really has made me think harder about what to shoot and how to give it real impact. Thanks!

Thanks, it was a spur of the moment thing, but the gory images on the TV show I was watching certainly sparked my imagination.

A classic example of how external stimulus can generate/influence creative thinking.

It is. I don't climb, but I've had it in the house for years from a previous project.

I've been thinking of throwing it out for ages - lucky I didn't :-)

Nice! Well done... THE most creative I've seen so far in this challenge! I gave it a 10. I read your forum post in the forum... so I'll answer you really quickly.

The choice to add a border should be on whether it adds to the image. Some images don't work well directly butted up against the neutral grey bg. Yours would have done well against the neutral grey, so the frame doesn't add much for you. But, it certainly doesn't detract from the image, other than you have lost that many pixels in which you could have shown just a little more detail.

Hope that helps.

It's not good form to link to your picture from the forums during voting. I'm sure that will probably render you some criticism and some scores that don't reflect the image itself. That said, it's a nice photo with lots of tonal range and great clarity. The border doesn't bother me at all, either. Good luck in the challenge.

An excellent photograph, but the white border detracts from the image as it hints at something missing. I think it would have been much more powerful without the border - but I still easily got the sign without looking at the title. Take a look at "Mark of Death " and then try looking at your image both ways with fresh eyes.

Different take on the challenge, sharp focus, good use of lighting, and well executed

Great hand - terrific texture and color treatment. If I had a criticism, it would be that the rope isn't as grizzled looking as the hand. That would have pushed this to 10. 8

Nice composition and conversion. Great use of contrast to bring out the details. A little disturbing, but nice image.

A very...gripping image (sorry, I couldn't resist). Just an overall terrific image, although the creativness behind this shot seems a bit on the dark side. Good luck in the challenge. 10

Very powerful shot. The rope seems to conflict however as it appears too clean and new. Nice job.

Oh, man, truly great, Such detail (I take it you had a pretty small aperture [I could be wrong]), yet such a sharp, focused image. I love the strong contrasts, as well. Teriffic work.
