Photographer’s Notes

I feel like a stalker. I set out today to take some candid shots at the Seattle Boat Show. Good crowds; interesting people; a target rich environment. I would spot someone I wanted to “isolate from the crowd with shallow DOF” and follow them waiting for my shot. Sometimes it would come, some times not. If not, I would scoot over to an adjacent isle, get ahead of them, scoot back and wait for them to come to me. Sometimes they would. Sometimes they wouldn’t. I spent 4 hours, had fun, saw a lot of boats in between shots … but in the end, I was not satisfied with the take.

So fall back to some photos I took yesterday at Seattle University. I have one, especially, that is dead on the challenge. Good title I hope. Let’s see what you all think.

Good use of a shallow DOF to isolate your subject, well lit, clear focus, good luck

Proper use of DOF (or is it the blur filter in PS?), but I don't think that this is an interesting shot: I think that the posture and gesture of the main subject did not deserve to be photographed.

I like it, but what I really want to know is what that chick to the right is thinking ;-)

Hmm the blue fringing on the lower right seems to really distract from the shot ...

What is happening in the bottom right of the picture? I spoils an otherwise beautiful shot.
