The pie blends in too much and is washed out.

Very nice capture!

Looks like a mud pie.. Blends with the background...

Thank you all for your comments. I totally agree about the background. It was thoughtless, on my part, to have submitted the photograph without considering a a tablecloth that might make my subject stand out a bit. I'll try to be much more careful about the shots I submit from now on. Thanks again.

The pie looks great. Maybe would stand out more on a different color backround.

yum - love pie! looks a bit overdone for my taste and the background choice is a little drab - the pie seems to blend right into it, perhaps a nice red or blue table cloth instead or even white? red and white checkered would have been great - very American. Great focus and lighting :)

Good looking pie. The technical aspecyts of the picture like focus, color and lighting are nicely done. The background tends to blend in with the pie crust which makes it harder to distinquish. This would be an even better image if a slice were cut from the pie to show how delicious the filling is.

The beautifully browned crust gets lost in the "blah" background, a contrasting solid color would have shown off the wonderful dessert better, voting 6 because the subject looks delicious.

I love the pie (what kind tho?) but want a more contrasting background.
01/15/2006 04:53:28 PM
I think a background that was more plain and contrasted more with the pie would make this stronger

Very nicely done, focus is great, looks good enough to eat. Only thing I would suggest is a different background to really make the pie "pop". Overall well done-7

This looks very tempting.....

While the pie does look good, I think this image suffers from poor presentation. The subject is centered and full frame with slightly odd lighting, leaving the image flat and static. Background may play a large part here - a more apetite inducing background, say red or yellow, even blue maybe, would induce a viewer to want to eat. Currently, both in texture and tone, the background competes with the pie. You've done a good job of capturing the food itself - not an easy task which is why I rarely try. But I think you need a little more: a glass of milk, a fork, a slightly wider viewpoint, to make this image really pop. 5 - good luck in the challenge!

A little lighting from the left may of made this the perfect photo 9

That does look good! I like the color variations in the curst. A more contrasting backgroud might imphasize that a bit more.

Meets the challenge, but there doesn't seem to be enough contrast between the pie and the countertop.
01/13/2006 11:35:07 AM
A little bit too dark shadow in the lower left corner. An extra light would do the trick.
01/13/2006 12:09:32 AM
While a good, clear focused shot of a pie, it needs something more to the composition to provide more visual interest. Perhaps if you had cut a slice out so we could see the filling and maybe left the pie lifter in the pan or beside it on the counter, it would have had more impact.

great setting!

Very attractie image with good sharpness and colour too. Regards,

background doesn't enhance the subject

Nice. The shadow gives an interesting feel.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Pie! 'lo Bob! When you come, you bring Pie! :o) P.S. If this isn't an homage to Weebl and Bob please excuse what must seem like one of the oddest comments ever - and go look up Weebl and Bob!

Not fond of the background, the pie just blends into it. Maybe if you added more elements to the photo it would look better (a colourful napkin, a fork, etc).
01/11/2006 01:24:51 PM
the background is too similar to the actual pie
01/11/2006 11:08:01 AM
Looks like a great pie! Because the colors are all in the same range, the most interesting part of the image for me is the lighting - I like that you have a brighter bit & a shadow. I think it would work better for me if the shadow were given more room to show ... maybe a larger crop so that the pie is in the upper right quadrant and the shadow given a chance to play itself out on the counter.

could do with some steam coming out or a knife or something else to give it a nice focal point
