Challenge: Burst of Color (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Location: Vijzelstraat, Amsterdam NL
Date: Jan 3, 2006
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 200

Deliberate graffiti on the art-deco building of the Nederlandse Handelsmaatschappij in Amsterdam. Because of restaurations and reconstructions this opening is covered with wood and graffiti allowed by and most likely paid for by the constructor. Normally there would be some heavy doors there.

Normal raw conversion with Nikon Capture (no edits, just conversion)

Photoshop 6:
- PT Lens distortion correction, used the correction settings of a Contax SLR with a Carl Zeiss 28mm f/2.8 Distagon. Interesting that the Sigma 30 has the same kind of distortion.
- Cropped (included the front porch to keep some depth)
- Fred Miranda Digital Velvia +8
- Contrast +15 on everything but the grafitti
- Fred Miranda Chroma Noise Reduction
- Resampled to dpc size
- USM 150% on .3px
- safe for the web @ 67%

Nice photo Sander - I thought this should finish much higher. Very excellent burst of color :)

Just a follow up to let you know that I'm amazed this didn't finish higher than it did. I thought this was one of the top 5 examples of 'burst of color' and I was one of your 10 votes. You can't get a much better subject than this bright, colorful grafiti against a dull, gray, stone wall.

A great shot, and something to print out at 11x17 and hang on your wall. I would, if it was available as a print! :)

Taking a guess at Hanneke's doing, could be due to the green :) ... If so "Nice burst of color, like how it's framed by the grey!"

If not, "Nice burst of color, like how it's framed by the greys!"

This would be hilarious if it were actually true! The title of the picture actually makes the picture for me!
