This shot comes from a very interesting display at a local Zoo. No, I didn't get stung, the bees were behind glass!

Anna, thanks for the critique (my first in a while!). I did consider cropping out the upper left corner. I tried and tried - rotated, etc. but I was losing a lot of sharpness and detail that I didn't think I could compensate for in NeatImage. Here is one of my other attempts.

I think I'll give it another try during my next visit to the Zoo.
Thanks again for the helpful critique!

Wow this actually fits two very recent challenges both the B Challenge and the Speed Challenge.

It is such a cool photo it really does show so much it has a great deal of detail in it. Your focus is fabulous. Your bees moving around blurred and then the honeycomb being in such wonderful focus.

A very good finish my question is did you try cropping it differently so you would cut out the left top corner? Although I know it is bees moving it seems to distract from the rest of the photo.

Nicely done and congrats on the 3rd place

Anna

Thanks to all that took the time to comment on this submission. I can hardly believe that I have earned a second ribbon in as many weeks. It may be luck, but I'd like to think that it has to do with what I am learning from many of my fellow DPC addicts. Perhaps I will be lucky enough to complete the set and win a red ribbon one day! Thanks again!

Congrats on the yellow ribbon!

Absolutely excellent. I didn't get a chance to comment while voting, I don't think, but this was one of my few 10's. Congrats on the ribbon!

Wonderful colors. What really gets me though is the feeling of movement in the picture, on top of that one bee remains sharp - you really captured the essence of what it must feel like to bee in a hive :) One of my favorites this week -10

I would never have gotten this close to the bees for this picture. You're a better man than I... :)

Nice. I like the sense of activity - the way many of the beese are blurred with motion - but also the still focus on a couple near the center who are not moving at this moment. This is a very effective picture, and somewhat unnerving - I'm not sure I want to be as close to the bees as you've brought us. :) Good one!

This is a wonderful shot, the superb yellow lighting adds a lot of feeling to the scene. A winner in my book. 10

Excellent shot but maybe a faster shutter speed would have sharpened up some of the bees. 8

Bees doing a dance? This is a great shot. Those honey makers may be out to get a hold of this shot!

You're very brave to be getting that close. I'm getting the "creeps" just looking at this.

Just started voting but I think it is one of the top 10

Don't think I would have wanted to be that close.

Best of the "Bee Shots" by far! 8

Really like the way that all attention is focussed on the middle bee - and great result for capturing this challenge. Appears there's just a little blur from the middle bee's movement as it doesn't some quite as clear as the honeycomb, but its a great shot nonetheless

Awesome shot. I like the motion implied by the "outside" bees and the sharp focus on the inside ones.

I love this, the one bee in the middle is in focus and the other bees look very busy. HOW did you manage to get so close????

Nice shot. Shame you couldn't use a slightly faster shutter speed, or did you want to convey motion?

Great motion here. I particularly liked that you kept (or captured) one of the bees without too much motion. Excellent.
