Much obliged post voting commentary: Thank you for your constructive and congratulatory remarks. This is no doubt a major case of beginner's luck. Many thanks to my cat for enduring the photo shoot. She appears steady and calm here in the picture but make no mistake, those darkened eyes spoke silently "I'm going to bite your head off." Blue ribbon rubbed in a little catnip and all is forgotten

Backlit with desk light. Bumped up contrast and turned b/w. It's no cookie keeping my cat still for a picture in the dark.

beautiful silhouette

7 - Like this. Criticism; difficult, but I wonder about a different framing, perhaps vertical, but the horizontal works well here so who knows. I am sure you are aware of the 'specks' in front of the cat. Maybe, just the 'front' lit up, and the 'back' not visible at all may have given this an edge, but I do like the slight 'touch' on the back giving shape and context so who knows, just make them different, but still good, shots. edit:typos & congratulations

Sweet action. I'd give it a 10 if it were just a tad sharper. The chest hair looks a bit blurry. 9

Love the way the light shows off the fur and whiskers! Simple but purrrfect! ;) Nice job! Now, how did you get the cat to sit so still with such an attentive posture?

This is very nice and original! I think that perhaps cropping so the light line of the cat's fur wasn't right down the middle might have made this a stronger picture.

I like this, but then I am a cat lover! - Sounds petty, but it's a pity about that white spot near the middle of the frame, it was the first thing I noticed. Anyway, this is a great idea, well executed. And how did you get the cat to sit still for so long?

Given that most of us are probably jaded by cat shots, I think that this shot is exceptional and fitting to the assignment. Nicely done.

That is ADORABLE! Did you train the cat to stay like that?

You get a higher score, just for getting the cat to stay like that...unless it's stuffed(?)

LOVE THIS!!! Great use of backlight. This would make a good poster. I think I'd crop about an inch and a half off of the right side. Just my personal taste. 7
