Beautiful colors, and excellent capture of the rose. I also like the way you have the shadows -- it took me a second to figure out what you had done. I really like this -- to me it is "wall material."

I like this style of photography. The idea with the opposite shadow is very good, but it would have had more impact if there would be no shadow below the rose. Saying that, I realize that's probalby very hard to achieve though. Good job anyhow!

Nice use of shadow.

Very creative!!

Nice. I had plans to play around with a rose and shadow as well, but didn't have the time in the end. It probably wouldn't have turned out as well as this one anyway. In my top 10 this week.

I love the combo of real red rose and shadow rose. The duality is nicely accented by the framing.

Well composed, good lighting.

Well executed. I really like the use of that second shadow. Top 5

Creative.

nice effect! This would be a 10 if you altered the camera or lighting angles to hide the real shadow beneath the rose, leaving only the opposite shadow. Very good photo

I almost used this theme. This turned out nice with only one dissenting comment. I wish you could have gotten rid of the shadow from the rose. I wonder if a finely focused directional source light from the left would do the trick. Maybe use a snoot or barn doors. Anyway, I liked this photo and think it very good.

Excellent image. Would have been improved I think if you brought out the red a bit more in the flower, and adjusted the white point on the background to make it a more pure white. Also, when optimizing and saving your image, you really should take advantage of the full 150k file size available to you. I think using a little less compression would have resulted in a slightly crisper, brighter image. But all in all, a really nice composition. Very well done.

This is a beautifully executed image... I *love* the contast between the red rose, the dark shadows, and the white background.. I envy those of you who do well with white backgrounds... that has been an area I have avoided and i really need to work on it some... It takes more time and patience than I am usually willing to give to get these images just right... I love the diagonal orientations in this photo also... I'm a sucker for the strong diagonals. I am trying to decide how much i like the blurred shadow.. i think it works very well here but I would also like to see the same image with a more defined sharp shadow... I don't see any reason that this photo should not receive a 10 :) Great work!

I have to admit... this tricked me at first glance...
06/17/2002 12:39:00 AM
WOW....neat idea! Too bad we can't alter images here. To make this even stronger I'd suggest removing the "real" shadow.
