Challenge: Personification (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Sony DSC-F717
Location: Livingroom

I had this idea, and it actually turned out pretty close to the vision I started with. It seems some folks didn't pick up on the personification aspect, but considering the conflicts of interpretation for this challenge (what else is new), I'm happy that so many DID get it.

Very little processing done. Slight bump in levels. Crop, resize. That's it. The leaves were held by clamps into place. Lighting is one large spotlight type flashlight used for backlighting. Water drops are actually corn syrup.

Thanks for the nice comments :)

I'm working on an inspirational/Scriptural print using this image. The idea is here:

I remember this from the challenge. It was an awesome fit to the challenge and the technicals are great. Now that I've come back to it I'm adding it to my favorites.

I didn't vote on this challenge, but would have scored this highly. I can immediately see the personification. The plain black background helps to not steal attention away from the subjects of this image. The catch light on the falling tear drop just completes it.

Just want to say thanks to those who have left such great comments on this and on the companion "print" file and poster. I really liked this shot and I'm so pleased that it has communicated it's intended message to so many viewers. That's very satisfying to me...so thank you very much for taking a few minutes of your time to leave a comment. :)

WOW! What an image. From concept to execution. Had I been around, this would've been a 9 or 10. I get the personification completely, and the "tear" just completes it.

This is absolutely gorgeous....I am currently employed as a nurse practitioner for an oncology clinic and would love to purchase a copy of this print to hang in our counseling room, where could I get the info to do that? Thanks!!!!

Wow. What an incredibly powerful image. I think I empathize more with creatures and things than I do with people sometimes - this is simply wonderful.

This is especially nice. The light through the leaves is illuminating and well executed. Your title serves to really set it off! Excellent.

Extremely emotional. Good use of black. The veins give age. The photograph brings forth
various feelings. Sometimes when I look at it I feel compassion and understanding and then
again dreadful sadness. 9

I don't like when there is 60% of the photo completely blank (combined with not so good composition).

The colors and the lighting make this image. There's a sensualness about it. Very well done. 8 - good luck in the challenge!

Love the sentiment. The green one seems slightly out of focus, as does the drop. The negative space is well used and I like the dead and living leaf. Clever take, but I wish it was tack sharp. 7
