Not a very complicated set up. Print a page full of "honey" and place a drop of honey. That's it. Wanted to take the picture outside during an overcast day -- this would totally remove the glare -- but it rained. Never got around to it.

Spot edited the final (not this one) print of this pic, to remove the bubble and relfections.

great way to get us realize what your liquid is! I like the tiny bubble too, and the smoothness of the drop.

Loving the focus here. I think you got a litttttttle too much blur at the top, but that's ok - an excellent shot. 9

There are a lot of really good shots this challenge, and this is one of my favorites. I love how you've used the drop of honey as a mini magnifying glass to make the one word stand out. Using the sheet printed with "honey honey honey..." made a great backdrop that really added interest to the honey itself. 10

Hmm, well, kind of overly-arty for my tastes. I'm fine with the use of honey and I do like the word refraction but I think there's way too much emphasis on the printout and not enough on the liquid; to some degree it's de-emphasized because of the focal blur but it's still a bit much.

A fun idea - simple and effective. The liquid really "pops" out. The small DOF exagerates what the honey drop does - brings the eye to focus on the honey and the words it magnifies. I wonder if an off-center crop would work better? Something on the "thirds" line?

I just wish I had thought of this. Fantastic. Crisp Focus ...how many times in this challenge have people missed focus. ?

the best of the bunch ... 10/10 ( the only this that spoils it is the wee bubble in the honey)

nice perspective/leading lines. love the simplicity. The focus and dof are perfect... and it is difficult to focus thru a viscous liquid! good work!

Wow. In the thumbnail this shot didn't look that interesting, but the full image it like explodes off the screen. I love the DoF. Very crisp. I think I would have liked to have seen this one with either the words straight, or a little more crooked. It seems a little inbetween as it is. 10

I get the feeling this might be honey ;)
nice shot, crisp and clear.... having said that, I would have perhaps just had the word honey once with the drop over the top of it..... just my 2 cents worth.... good luck, Todd.

The blured out "honey" in the very bottom of the photo is a bit distracting. Very nice photo otherwise.

06/04/2003 04:46:14 PM
This is great! A lot of the honey shots were becoming very cliched. The only thing I could suggest is maybe making the honey background a little more dynamic? Instead of columns maybe an 'intersection' where the central column and two or three horizontal rows in the middle meet, like an X. Maybe only a single honey, with the rest stark white...

Regardless, my favorite shot this challenge. Congrats.
