There is nothing like the sound of a solid break in the game of pool. This was taken with a flash to stop the initial action of the break combined with a long enough exposure to capture the rapid movement of the balls in the aftermath.

Unfortunately, I know from experience that there's also nothing quite like the crackle of a loose rack either.

I send a thank you to every one that took the time to make comments on this shot. To get it I made an extension for my tripod that would position my camers over the rack. I had my son (his table) break and I would snap the shutter. After many times this is what we got. His table is green and my poor lighting caused it to come out blue. We had some very harsh light coming from a window and after I got it blocked out I had a low light condition.
With your suggestions I plan to go back and do some more.
Thanks again,
Dick

Very interesting image, like everyone else says I can also hear the break. I do agree with many of the comments this would have been a wonderful motion photo also.

The focus and dof are good on this. I tend to agree about the blue of the pool table most are green but I have seen a few blue ones, and I am thinking the lack of lighting after the intial flash is the reason for the deepness of the blue table and the balls being a little dark.

Overall it is a good shot and there isn't a lot you can do to improve on it, but if there is any kind of a motion challenge in the near future I'd do it again if I were you =o)

Super stop motion photo. Unique idea for sound, too. I like it lots!

I can hear the classic sound of the cue ball hitting the racked balls. Very well done.

Nice concept, but a diffused or bounced flash would have been better

Okay, that, that is cool. A very distinctive sound, yes. The motion capture is very interesting looking. Where on earth did you find a BLUE pool table? (Or is that some amount of colour adjustment? I notice the oranges and reds aren't as sharply red as I might expect either so I'm suspecting it may be.)

Very cool. Is this a double exposure kind of thing (with 2 flashes). Great lighting.

This shot would have been more effective if a flash was fired on second curtain, here it seems that the balls are moving into the group and not away from the group which, I realise, was you intention!

This is just a suberbly executed shot! If I had any complaint, it would be with the blue felt (instead of green). 9

Great idea and shot, no pun intended. It portrays motion better than sound, but still a great shot!

10 for concept, 8 for execution: 9 overall. :-> A little more drama in the colorst/lighting might well have pumped it a bit higher, but still, very good. I hear the photo (which is my major grading criteria for this contest), and it's an appealing image overall. Love the combination of blurs and crisp/sharp focus.

i looove long shutter speed pool shots (i've taken many!) This is an interesting angle for one that i've never tried. Were you strattling the balls? (no pun intended). The blue felt is pretty cool too. nice work.
