I was out of town when voting took place for this challenge, I wish I had been here though.

This is a beautiful photo and for me the border brings the focus inwards, which leads to her wonderful expression. That and I don't think of it as a border really, more like matting for the photo. ;)

upon extended consideration, I have decided that this image is perfect.

lol gsal, it was actually azynm [xion] who suggested the border!!
:)

It must be disappointing a bit to learn how many talk about the border when you show us this fantastic image of the girl with the green apple. I love the photo. But - welcome to Xion´s world of huge white borders.

Les, coming back to explain that I actually really dig this border, but I think that when putting it so small on the internet it makes the actual photo part a bit small. for a print, this would of course be the ONLY way to frame it. :) Killer shot.

I think the border works here also. I love the square presentations anyway and the border sets that in motion nicely. This is an excellent capture of childhood... It makes me smile :) It would also look good with a slightly heavier black stroke around the image...

I think this was an incredible shot...it seems to really capture the childs personality. I think a lot of people got caught up with the border, which is absolutely the way you would display it in the "real world". I really liked that it looked like a completed project. I'd give you a 10 on this one...nice work

I really like the expression and the cropping of the photo. Nice out of focus background and interesting foreground with the apple. It seems to tell a bit of a story perhaps? IMHO, the frame is a bit too wide. it distracts from the photo itself and I find myself lost in the white... But great capture of an expression! Well done

What a great portrait. However, I think that your borber distracts from the portrait. It could have easily stood on its own.

very cute pose, greater depth of field would have left the apple nice and sharp too.

I really like the photo except for the hand. It looks too processed in relation to everything else.

What a cute kid. Personally, I find the overly large white border a bit much, but good capture.

I dont think I have ever seen a border like that on DPC. Often I hate borders but this frame is very effective. Looks like he's foing to throw his apple right out at me. Love the contrasting textured of hair, face, sweater. Excellent - 10

Well it's a very cute image and can't fail to appeal. Given the charming pose, I like the unusually wide frame ... it makes me feel he's about to lob that apple straight through the picture at me. 7

Frame!!! It to big, shrink it about 60% or so then you got a TOP TEN picture.
I love this big but I hate this frame - 7

I love the expression. this is a great looking little guy. i don't feel that the apple in hte hand is adding anything to this though, actually distracting from his great face.

I think a more natural pose would have been better. I don't understand why he is holding an apple. I think the green in the background distracts.
09/13/2005 09:50:42 AM
I love this photograph. I once taught kids who really remind me of this little boy with the cheeky look in his eyes. The photograph is sharp in just the right areas and blurred in the areas you don't need. (with the exception of the apple, I think I would have liked to have seen that a little sharper). Good Luck in the Challenge!

I love this photo. I like everything about it. I even love that border. It really works for this photo. The colors are great, expression is amusing and the touch of green with the apple works well with the background and really pops. Well done, bumping to a 9

appears to be a bit over processed or too much contrast. Just my thoughts
09/12/2005 02:31:02 PM
Awwwwwww. . . . what an amazing picture!!! He just makes me want to give him a huge hug. It's just a tad over-exposed, but I just love it anyway! Gosh. I hope you aren't getting killed for the border. This is normally one border-hating bunch! I happen to like it a lot and think this is an awesome photo!!!!!

Good job and decision to go with the heavy border and smaller pic. In this case you pulled it off and shows risk taking. Good pic of the boy too.. :)

yeah the frame does suck, but it's such a great photo I can forgive that. :)

larger DOF next time with a smaller aperature will keep the hand and the face in focus

What a great shot! Why the border??? Was it not big enough? I actual;ly would have given a 10 to this, but 8. I am actually not all that offended by borders, but why so big?
