This picture is a composite of an old man's dream meeting a young man's dream. My Dad was a genuine working cowboy in the Rockies, and this was my Dad's saddle. It is being toted by my grown son, who carries the dream into the future.

This is an excellent photo. To see how the shadows blend into the grass is outstanding.

Richard is on the road for the next few weeks, visiting family, and has asked that his sincere gratitude be passed on for all the wonderful comments and votes that he has received. He eagerly awaits his next chance to log back on to this addicting site to thank everyone personally. Thanks!
PS. Congratulations Autool, job well done.

Picture well done. Overall content is pleasing. Contrast and placement is good.
I might have tried a shot at a distance to show long lonely road if possible.

There's always a photo that stands out the first time I look at the thumbnails for each challenge, which I usually end up giving a 10. This was it this week :). Very beautiful composition, with those rolling hills and the pose you caught this guy in. The light is bright but not washed out (you must have used a filter), the colours are beautiful and vivid. One of my favourites.

Very nice composition and layout
06/14/2002 12:29:00 AM
Souther Cali? If there were a face to this shot, I would have rated it higher.
06/13/2002 07:17:00 PM
Very nice in many ways: the light, the subject, the composition, the quality of the sky, the gentle slopes... It's wonderful!
06/13/2002 01:38:00 PM
Nicely composed, great mood

I think this says "on the road" perfectly. Nice idea..perfect scenery in the background, great colors, great placement of subject..sun as his back..shadow leading the way. Great job..

Great photo. You did a good job at keeping all the colors in what looks like what might have been a pretty bright day.

I really like how this one turned out. Nice colors with the browns and blues. Very crisp details. Nice positioning. Love it!

I like it, it tells a story
06/11/2002 11:57:00 AM
I really like the colors and the composition in this picture. I hope this was set-up, or else that poor guy is having to carry that heavy saddle while you stand by and watch. :-) This would look great on a ranch house wall.

I like this photograph> Good color, composition and focus one of my top ten.
06/11/2002 10:44:00 AM
Top 3, hot shot!!!. I find myself staring at this one for minutes at a time, even at the place that I go to that pays me. I really love this image!!!
06/11/2002 09:32:00 AM
Great focus, Nice background, Good positioning of the subject. The horizon does cut this in half, but it doesn't seem to detract from the shot IMO.
06/11/2002 12:10:00 AM
very nice composition, and your subject really stands out
06/10/2002 11:08:00 PM
That poor guy looks like he's been carrying that saddle for days.
06/10/2002 09:08:00 PM
My favorite of the bunch! Color, composition, and theme.
06/10/2002 08:33:00 PM
I don't see a road.
06/10/2002 07:59:00 PM
Wow, another great shot! Great color! (fantastic color) Among the top 10 easily. Photo 10 Creativity 9 Road 10 total 10
(kinda works for next week, too! but weakly)

Very nice. I'm hoping he didn't have as far to haul his saddle as the photo makes it look. My only "I wish" with the photo is that the plant on the left edge weren't there. Maybe it's because his shadow leads directly to it, but I look at it more than I think it deserves. It also makes the photo feel a touch less barren. Very minor, though, and I'm being nitpicky.
06/10/2002 05:51:00 PM
Nice Capture, Looks like something from a magazine :)
06/10/2002 03:51:00 PM
Niccccccce composition, color, clear, clean, crisp shot! Good work.

Testing a new critique method with your photo:

Composition and Framing: I see absolutely no problems with this photo on either of these issues. The subject is very nicely placed on the 'third' line and also nicely centered vertically in the frame. The vertical centring allows the 'road' to have the visibility it needs in this challenge. I also really appreciate the way the shadow provides a nice diagonal in the frame. This diagonal helps draw attention to the subject.

Image quality: The image quality on this photo is also very nice. Everything is crisp and clear, as it should be in this type of photograph. The tones of blue that you have in your sky are very nice. Possibly a bit darker blue would have been nice but that is just my preference.

Challenge: This photo has done an excellent job of meeting the challenge. I expected to see something like this, but this is a good thing! Your impression of what I 'expected' to see is indeed beyond my expectation.

Note: One of my photography mentors has always told me that a photograph should generally read like a book - from left to right and from top to bottom. With this in *my* mind, I would possibly attempted to do this shot with the hiker placed on the 'left' third line and walking towards me instead of away from me. This is just a thought of my own personal opinion.

Now that I have tried my critique method on your photo, I think i like it. I obviously can't comment this way on everything, but maybe i will try it more in the future... btw - i scored this shot a 10.. i really like it! good job!
06/10/2002 02:36:00 PM
nice tones
nice composition
06/10/2002 02:28:00 PM
Yes! I love this! This is what I had in mind, but didn't have the resource to pull it off. I love the colors and feeling in this shot.
06/10/2002 02:13:00 PM
I only gave 2 10's this week, and this was one of them.
06/10/2002 01:19:00 PM
Neat landscape, perfect subject. Good composition, I love the colors and the shadow. Really nice job.
06/10/2002 12:31:00 PM
I really like this photo. Excellent job!
06/10/2002 08:35:00 AM
This is exellent!!!! This is the one!!!
06/10/2002 02:58:00 AM
10 points for this photo!!
I don't know extactly why I like it.
May be it's the clear blue sky or the bright yet comfortable contrast between the sky and the hay. And the traveller gives me a very positve feeling.
Excellent shot!!!!
