Every year when we visit our cousin's cottage we bring the firewood and get it from this 90 year old wood splitter. Every year he seems to be a little bit more dead looking but he's very friendly and I snapped this when he was talking to my dad.

I have a much better- illegal editing version, but I really wanted to enter this so I had to crop out a lot of stuff instead of cloning it.

*Critique Club*

I go in to get a Critique Club image to critique. This is the second one. Many of us (including me) feel like we have a lot to learn compared to you. But how many times have you heard that? I am going to critique this image like I do the rest and if you have any questions don't hesitate to pm me and cuss me out. Ok on with the critique.

When I first looked at this image and many other images of seniors they all seem to tell a story of a life lived and this does just that. I love the effect on this image your now trademarked grunge look. The lines on his face are perfect and the fairly new Budweiser hat goes along very well with this image. The look in his face says it all to me. The only problem I have with this is it looks as if the top of the ear is slightly off on focus. I would like to see it all of him in focus. Overall I really like it. I think you have captured a moment in this long life and should cherish this one.

I like this picture a lot; the lighting done on this guy is amazing; and the wrinkles on his face appear as if they could tell two lifetimes worth of stories.

Wow...hmmm...well wow, but hmmmm....It's a great character study, that's absolutely certain...I guess the hmmm is coming from the coloring? not sure. I think it might have gone a step or two too far in processing, at least of the subject. The background is fine, but the face of this guy is great and I wouldn't have messed with it so much, if indeed that is what you did. Like the compostion.

I like the lines and texture, and the lighting. I think you did a good job of capturing emotion. 7

Way to capture the emotion!!! I love it. The focus seems just a touch soft, but feels right in this particular image... I'm afraid.... point off for no "&" or "and" in title. -7

Nice subject & composition, but IMHO it is just too over processed. Also he could have benifited by some slight fill light into the eye sockets. Good work.

What a wonderful capture of this gentleman. Something about the coloring I can't quite pinpoint (not that technical), but I like the composition. Nice photo.

Beautiful picture, I'd love to sit down with this man and listen to stories from his life. Lighting is good, skin tones seem a bit too yellow(ish) and it's a bit grainy (sp?) around his eyes.

I'm not sure if putting a person in this image was the right choice. I think if you were going for the grunge look, similar to Joey's, you need to try a little harder as this just does not do it for me. I think you should stick to photographing fields and clouds... HA! excellent work as always. Especially telling is the expression you captured so well.

I was torn on how to vote for this shot due to the title missing the &...I was voting pretty literal to the challenge. But this is such a poignant shot that I felt it deserved a high score regardless of the title.

I don't see "Difficult Lifetime" in this photo, but I will not let that affect my score. In this photo I see "patience" or "wisdom" or "Hero", maybe even "Mentor". This is a great shot, one you certianly can be proud of! Great job!! 10
