Okay, so it just wouldn't rain! so I had to improvise(hope I won't get nagged on for not having actual rain in the pic:-p). Really easy setup, with me as the subject (yet again). For the editing, I thought I'd go all out for a really dramatic effect. Some will probably think it's overprocessed, but this is what I did to make up for lack of actual rain, and lack of model/camera control when doing a self portrait.

editing: crop, contrast, turn everything besides me & stairs b/w, desaturate stairs, do very slight blue tinting to certain parts of pants and umbrella, dodge and burn shoes, umbrella, and grass, slight diffuse glow filter to everything but myself, border, save for web.

post challenge:
Wooohooo, not bad. Thanks for the comments and votes everyone :-)

The Converses are a bit too new for my liking, they really stand out in the image...I dunno if that was intensional, but it works. The clean white of the toes adds dimension to the grungeyness. Nice.

Too overprocessed for my taste. Sorry, I'm just not a big fan of selective desaturation. But you do it well.

I like this very much. The angle of the stairs, legs and umbrella makes this a very interesting shot.

I love this shot! The selective desat is great here, and the angle works beautifully.

did you paint the colors back in? excellent tone control. Love the shoes. Angle works for me and adds to image. Crop, composition and lighting are excellent. I think I know whos this is... :) 9

Great simple composition and pose. I love the color and slight desaturation, and how the blue is brought out. Great contrasty image.

like the feel and angle, but wheres the rain?
  Photographer found comment helpful.
08/20/2005 08:58:42 PM
I think its a bit to over processed (for my taste) and personally think it would benefit from some grittyness. It's kind of a dark image, and I think if it felt "older" it would be more striking. excellent crop and composition, good use of selective sat.

Nice effect here with the colors. Very edgy without being too "digitally-arty."

love the muuted tones of this. selective desat maybe? the tattered umbrella adds a great character to this, as does the models pose. great sharpness. 10

Nice (finnaly) use of selective desaturation. Weather it was raining or not, this image definatly conveys the impression of a stormy day.

GREAT! I bet I know who did this too. The blue against the charcoal and grey is awesome. The angle works perfectly. Ok - this gets my 10!!!

On reviewing the thumbnails again, this stands out with the white of the Converse and the wonderful tonality of the indigo of the jeans and umbrella. (Joey is that you??)

Concept is nice, but seems setup instead of spontaneous. Felt it could have been just alittle more exciting , alittle more ragged and possibly barefoot would have gave it a less contrived feel.

I love composition, color and concept. I almost can smell the rain on the grass. Appearing more tears of water on the umbrella could have improved.
Anyway, Excelent!!
