Another one of my demented ideas! My husband modeled for me. We have a large pile of cement type sand in the yard; I suggested to him {heh heh} that he wet his hands then get behind the pile and dig through it so all I could see were his hands protruding as though frozen in cement...took a lot of shots until I found one that had the perspective I wanted...cropped, levels, hue/saturation to get the look of dead skin, curves, unsharp mask.

Great idea, I like that you put effort and creativity into this photo.

You did a good job with the composition. The texture of the sand is outstanding. I would have liked to see this in landscape instead of portrait. with the cement I would do one of two things, I would either smooth the sand to give it a hardened look or what would look even better is to use more of a side light to give longer shadows. Don’t forget one of the photographer’s best friends is a reflector in this photo it would have helped soften the shadows under the hands.

Color is great for this photo it really gives a cold feel to it which really works for this.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions on anything I said hopefully this helped. Thank you.

Thank you for comments and votes, even the 1, haha...this was my second picture with a greater than 6 average, and I am happy about it..sorry if this image disturbed a lot of people, but I had just seen a movie about Jimmy Hoffa and began thinking about him possibly being buried in cement somewhere and what being trapped in cement might look like...

The texture has a cool bite and the hands look great.

The solid looking upper left hand corner doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the photo to me. Definately has the illusion of someone being trapped under some cement. Focus and clarity seem ok. The hands look unnaturally reddish. Lighting looks good. Not sure about the angle. There really isn't anything wrong with it, but I wonder if a different angle would add more visual appeal. ~Heather~

Interesting picture, like the colour and texture. Hope the cement didn't set too quick.

Great idea, a concrete idea. I would like to see a liitle more lighting in this shot, just to lift it a little

Good illusion created here just seems to be lacking something composition wise. Maybe in landscape format would be better. Still a good image for this challenge.7

Great concept! I love it. My only complaint is that the lighting makes the shot kinda flat. Ya need a little more detale in the shadows. Was this one light or two? A little fill light placed to the left of frame may have made this pop more...

Not sure what the illusion is for this image but it is great and extremely powerful :)

Love the textures going on in this picture. The lighter or "hardened” part in the upper left is only a tad distracting but a great photo!

i think this is a great shot. nice dof to keep most of the cement and hands in focus. i think i'd like it better if it was a landscape.

Nice execution of the illusion. The lighting and colorization sets the perfect mood for this picture. Kind of "Night of the Living Dead" creepy.

First Impression:Very effective. I just keep wondering what it would look like if the hands held different poses.
Was I fooled? Someone ticked off the Familia. Hehe. Nice one!

nice take on the challenge, i think it wouldve looked better if you could have smoothed out the cement to look like it was hard.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this isn't an illusion... LOL Looks like you're hands really are coming through the cement! Nice work!
