Actually, quite a lucky picture.
I wanted something very graphic for this assignment. I thought it was neccessary to fit the theme. But I didn't expect my entry to be THAT graphic... :)
What you see in the background are 2 glass candle holders backlit to achieve those nice soft colors. On top of the foreground is the end of a straw I was holding with one hand. And I was surprized to see how water falling fast from it created this seperation between the 2 colors... My initial goal was to capture a "lens" effect with water drops... I kinda liked this one and forgot about the drops. :-)

Wonderful bit of work Christo. The colors are very smooth and rich for such a macro (I had not guessed it was a straw!). Congrats on your first ribbon!

Wow, thanks a lot for all those very nice comments!
I woud have liked to answer to you all personally, but it's not possible.

When the picture came out on the LCD, I kind of knew this was a good shot. I sometimes have this feeling, but not often enough IMO. :)
But it's the first time I take a picture that so many people really like. I feel very happy for this reason, because I believe a good photography is one that anybody can appreciate, no matter if you are a pro photographer or never took a picture.
So this might be my first good picture. :)
Thanks again for the very kind words.

Amazing technique= amazing shot.
Congrats to you.

Christo, everyone is talking about my controversial shot, but they should be talking about this one. Your composition, lines, colors, everything came together on this one in wonderful ways. I really congratulate you on this. As I mentioned below, I'm glad to see an abstract image get a ribbon, and I'm glad the abstract is such good photography.

Like the technique and principles you describe in the details - a more interesting final result because of how it was created for me

This is gorgeous. 10 no question - best be in the top 3. I would have run a light Neat Image on this to get the grain out of the green. Good luck!

The colors, the composition, the sharpness combine to make this an absolutely fabulous photo.

This is abstract enough I can't really tell what it is - and in past, I've sometimes found that to be a detraction, in my voting. However, this just strikes me, deep down, as so beautiful that I had to give it a 10 despite not knowing what you were photographing. :->

Intriguing. Is that a straw in front of a two-coloured background? Here's a different take on the refraction technique. Good job.

If that's what I think it is, that's very neat. What a great effect - how did you think of it. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

Very Interesting. Looks like you have two glasses of different coloured liquid in the background and just plain water pouring out of a straw. However it was done, Very creative, and executed beatifully. 9

Nice abstract.
05/17/2003 07:07:16 PM
Wonderful - really simply and I love the way the water splits the colours in the background. The two main droplets add further to the strong composition. I also like the graininess in the green, but less so in the orange. Am curious to learn whether it was a deliberate choice (ISO etc) or an artifact of compression.
