I bet there are a lot of complaints about this shot and the harsh lighting! An antique wooden rocking horse I purchased a few years ago...wanted to do something dramatic with a picture of it: laid on the floor on my back and shot up at it; then I used levels to bring down the shadows to black, used direct sun for lots of contrast, there are some highlights on the head people may complain about, but I liked them and it added to the drama..it is definitely kind of bizarre, but it's what appealed to me and not a cliched shot...used a slight crop, curves and unsharp mask...cloned out a small shadow on cheek...left the other shadows because they looked cool...I'll be lucky if this breaks a 4 in the voting.

I adore your shot, the angle is very realistic in terms of exaggerating the horse's scale without distortion, the supernatural lighting completes the package.

Wow! I cannot believe I finally made the top 20! Thank you for all your comments; this bizarre horse gave me a wonderful ride...

Well, you keep doing this ... producing images that are beautiful but also a bit emotionally unsettling. Thus they burrow into the viewer's mind & it's hard to get them out! The first one I can recall was a self-portrait, but there have been several since. And this is another good one. You're the grown-up Joey Lawrence (which I mean as a compliment, to both of you).

No. no: the harsh lighting fits this image because it gives it that eerie look. Congratulations on your top twenty finish.

Nicely lit, makes a simple rocking horse seem very menacing wich I am sure was your intent. Good job!

I'm torn between the harsh shadows being good or not. I'd have to see what it looked like with some fill light. Very nice picture though.
