 My goal for this challenge was to use a minimal amount of PS...I slightly desaturated...a teeny bit of dodge and burn to bring out some of the faces in the dags,ambro and tin types...and a little USM...that was it.

I took over 300 variations of my collected still ife to arrive at what you see here...the complexity was in the lighting. There were 4 sources...light painting was what added the "mood" and was actually the key element...I wandered through the image with this light source accenting various objects during a long exposure...

about the "stuff"...I am a rabid collector of Victorian photography...photo history in general completely fascinates me...many of the images are actual family, some are not...all of the non-photographic items are family artifacts...the jet necklace, the binoculars, the tea cup, the mine cut diamond engagement ring, the little coconut tin, the shell cameo etc., etc...I'm so happy that they didn't end up in some antique store somewhere like so many of these items often do...or even worse...in a land fill somewhere...gotta love the family pack rats.

Wow this is great, this is the reason I loved photography so much, staring for hours at my grandparents photos, nothing has more character than a photo from the past.

Cool idea. I like family photos, but the collage is almost overwhelming for my taste. The lighting and focus is nice but maybe a few less things might have been more effective for me.
