Paroxysm

Pronunciation: par·ox·ysm

1. A sudden outburst of emotion or action

Location:

Frying Pan, My Kitchen ;-)

Editing:

White Balance set to Fluorescent
Minor Hue/Saturation adjustment
Colour Dodge 25%
Unsharp mask 100% at .05
Noise reduction in Neat Image

Image Info:

Well, I've always wanted to try this style of shot, so without really thinking about `setting up a scene` I just tweaked the tap a little, and let it start dripping into the frying pan we had in the sink (used to cook the fajitas the night before, which were fantastic btw! ;-).

Tried a few different settings, with/without flash, but found fastest shutter speed of 1/500 at 300mm zoom in macro mode, the best combination.

It's about making the ugly, the everyday object, interesting; would you have guessed this was taken where it was? ;-) the flecks of light in the background are actually bits of food sat on the bottom of the frying pan :-)

enjoy!

Thanks to everyone here, this shot was taken hand held and was really just a test of the ol' water droplet shots i've wanted to try, very happy with the 20th place the image achieved however - but knew it would always be beaten by some freaky up close bug shot :-)

This is also uncropped - so bar some very very minor post processing, this is straight out of the camera!

Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for all the feedback! :-)

Pretty cool shot, and cool duotone used. Liked the detail and the flow about the rebounded drop. ALso like that second bubble by the cone of the first. Very nice indeed.

pretty and fluid. Nice contrast and sharpness and composition. Your central droplet really stands out - both sharp and darker than the background. 7

I like the hint of sparkle at the top of the 'drop' and the water texture seems so fluid. This depth of field also works well here. In my opinion, the cropping takes away a bit from the photo. It seems to cut off the interesting ripples. Perhaps a more squarish crop to eliminate the left water area a bit?
Well done!

looks really neat! I love the deep blues... it lacks originality but makes up for it in detail and finish. 9

7 - Nice. One 'bubble' for me would have been better. Nice color, 'flow', 'fade'. Title lost me a little.

Great shot but really overkilled on this site. Nonetheless, I'll give you six for the sheer effort. Good luck!

If it were a little larger size, it would be even better! But the composition is beautiful, great shot! Love the lighting and everything looks crystal clear. A great capture.
