Shots ruined by being out of focus

Beautiful capture of an equally beautiful dragonfly. The slight movement in the tail and the blur of the wings really makes this...

That's a species we don't see in Britain and it is nice to see so much colour and detail.

Amazing photo! Great detail and color not to mention catching this little bugger (pardon the pun!) in flight!

wow. i really can't believe this didn't score higher, given how well captured, and technically difficult this is.

Very well captured. Great colour details. Thankyou so much for your comment on my Sport entry. That image was taken during a cutting event. Judi

Thanks for the kind comments. The shot was one of seven outtakes and the only one where the dragonfly was facing semi-forward. All I did was auto-focus on a hovering d-fly, and shoot. In PS I added contrast, curved a bit and USMed. I Neat Imaged the shot. Van

Wow.. I like this simply because I know how hard it is to get a moving object as sharp and in focus as this. Well done. I hope I can accomplish someday.

This among a few others makes my face scrunch up, because I have NO clue how you achieved flight capture. (patience I suppose). Unless you pp a blur effect. works for me. Except inevitably it is a little blurry and lighting a little harsh.

wow! what a capture! Good luck. I hope folks appreciate what a hard shot this must have been to capture.

Really nice shot and in any other challenge this would have been right up there at the top, but the competition is fierce, so I'm being a little more picky than I normally would. I think the DOF is good, but could be better at the tail. I like the movement of the wings. Also there are a couple of hot spots on the fly that detract from it's color and definition. All in all, a really great capture (and like I said, would have scored a 9 from me with less competition). 7

Tough to get bugs in flight with the narrow dof. Well done.

8 - Very good but, even though more focus on the 'wings in flight' would obviously be very difficult, more focus/detail on the head and body would be great. Very good 'mid flight' capture though.

Fantastic that you got him flying. Good job

What I wanna know is ... how do you hold him still long enough to get the eyes and body in focus while the wings are buzzing like that?!?!?!?!? Nice shot. Good luck!
