Not sure what is obsolete here ... I like the ripple and reflection but, in this case trying to fit the subject and putting the stump in there ruins the shot.

When I find out who did the image, I'll mail you my tree which I chose not to use. Anyway, yours is better than mine was. I like the ripple in the upper right. It offsets the dark tree stump nicely.
