Loved this shot. Seen the details too. What is a Vellum sheet? Is it same as tracing paper?

Congratulations on your first ribbon! And it's a beautiful shot too. Such lovely tones. It's also a milestone to win this without the additional sharpening! I think too many photos here are "oversharpened"; there's a beauty in a subtle softness too--and I think it works well here with the hardness of the metal. Good luck for many future ribbons.

Congratulations, Chris. Didn't vote (couldn't face 501 entries, I'm afraid). However, this ribbon is about as overdue as it's possible to be. Your stuff is consistently some of the best and most thoughtful on the DPC site. In particular, your compositional skills are exemplary. I encourage everyone who looks at this ribbon winner to also check out the rest of your work on your profile page.

Love the simplicity. Lovely sheen in the bowl of the spoon, very fluid, the metal looks almost molten.

i've taken pics of spoons before, but not like this one. Very well done. Everytime i take pics like this you see every tiny scratch and defect in the metal. how did you get it so smooth looking?

I never thought that a shot of a spoon would make me say "wow!" But seriously, Wow! This is excellent! The lighting is excellent here, the graduated effect towards the top contrasts nicely with the bright part of the spoon. The focus is razor sharp too. Really nice job!

Metal is VERY hard to shoot well in a studio product situation like this. You pulled it off quite well. I'm guessing you used a brand new spoon? The edge lighting around the entire rim is quite well done. the spoon itself shows no visible blemishes (very hard to do with used utensils). Focus is a touch soft near the tip for me, I would have rather seen the handle be OOF more to correct this. The tone is also quite good. You cover a lot of zones in this shot.

beautifully smooth shot The odd wrinkle in the background actually adds interest. I just hope there was no cheating with an airbrush. If not, then you've done a great job with the photo.
