Shot of porch light and staunless steel shade

levels, selective color, curves (inverted central portion in curves), neat image, usm, resize, border, save for web

***********

When I think about "what darkness means to me", I think about the bleak future of our planet, the shadow of nuclear holocaust and the shameless rape of the environment, and I think of the following from Robert Lowell, which I tried to put into imagery:

Pity the planet, all joy gone
from this sweet, volcanic cone;
peace to our children when they fall
in small war on the heels of small
war, unto the end of time
to police the earth, a ghost
orbiting forever lost
in our monotonous sublime.

Great photo and way underrated.

I am amazed by the disparity between the average score of the commenters compared with the other voters as well as the disparity between the no-camera voters and the camera voters.

Again, great photo and it should be higher than the 31 percentile.

The enigmatic nature of this shot alone makes it a worthy challenge top ten finisher as far as I am concerned. I love a good abstract .... and this is a great one. The combination of ellispe, crescent and round shapes work so well in combination. Throw in a dash of warm color and the dark intrigue; this becomes a winner!

Fantastic design statement. Love the luminescence on the ball.

Well, you're not likely to be Robert Lowell. Robert Ward, perhaps? Whatever, this is a clever idea, and worthy of the quotation in a witty and metaphoric kind of way. Can't decide if the insects add or diminish, so it's probably add. 8
