These flowers were growing wild on the side of the road here in AZ. We had a wet spring and should have a great year for wild flowers.

Greetings fromt the Critique Club
Hi Roger!

Composition
I can't really find anything to complain about here. I don't like the direct centering of the primary subject, but the other flowers make up for it.

Color
I love the post-processing on this shot. The blues really make the yellow stand out. I plan on reproducing this kind of shot in my own work. The yellow is beautiful here and the blues are a great background, even if a little unnatural.

Focus
I like the shallow DoF, but if I were to complain (critique?) I would say that I wish the flower below the main flower was OUT of focus or moved because the shadow on it is a bit bothersome because of the super clear focus on the rest of it.

Subject matter
Great choice of flora because of the color contrast you wished to create here. Was this a pre-shot design or post-shot edit that you liked?

Overall
Overall, I'm critiquing the best flora shot of the week. Anything I say is a minor critique. This is a stunning shot, one I wish I had taken.

Congrats and good luck in the future.

Yahoo!!! My first Blue Ribbon.

My daughter picked this photo and she is demanding some of the credit. I had chosen a cactus bloom but she insisted that I enter this one instead. So, thank you Valerie for your advice.

To answer the main question that everyone had, the color shift was done using levels and hue/saturation in PS Elements.

Thanks to everyone that took the time to vote and make comments.

Roger

Fantastic!!!! Wow - how did you get the stalks blue? Is that real or retouched? Very different and very descriptive. Gave it 9.

Pretty, I'm a bit confused as to the blue color though. Did you change it on purpose? Nice use of DOF. I would have preferred if the flower on the bottom was not in focus. Thats just a personal preference, I like when only one flower gets my attention.

I think the contrast between the blue and yellow is extrememly effective here. I alo like how the first few flowers are very sharp, adn there are spots of yellow in the background.

Interesting coloration. Is this real or has the hue been shifted? Either way, good score.

I rate this a ten. Love your post processing to add color contrast and tone/mood to this shot. The lighting is great and the use of dof is excellent. Good luck in the challenge, bet this will make the "winners" page.

I love the effect the blue shades give in this photo. I saw a similar one in a previous challenge that had the same effect. Is that due to the chosen white balance or done after the shot in post? Nice job
