this is nice. I like the composition. i also like how the light on her face seems to radiate out into the rest of the image and fade as it nears the left and right edges.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You for all the great comments during and after voting! I was so excited during the challenge and was very hopeful for a ribbon. I didn't get one, but this is the best I have ever done on this website. It is soooo hard competing with you guys! Everyone here is sooooo talented and creative, it makes me push the envelope a little and try as hard as I can to get better and better. I WILL GET A RIBBON ONE DAY!! I am certain! I may have to be a member for 5 years first though, but I will get one I just know it. THis just wasn't the right time.

What a great shot. Congratulations on your top 20 finish! It's a travesty that this shot got a 1, three 2's, and four threes.

Return for comment: This is a a really nice use of natural framing. I love the tones here, and the expression. It seems to have a bit of vignetting, but perhaps you did this on purpose, because to me, it gives this a bit of an old photographic look, and adds to the photo. Beautiful work (bumping up!)

Lovely turn in the title. I like the control on the B/W. Personally, would have gone for higher contrast, just a tad. Also might suggest a crop shift, about an inch off the right side, off-centering the face. But this is still a 10 for me for the associations it evokes.

Terrific framing of this subject, especially with the loose lock of hair echoing the "behind bars" theme established by the frame.

Love this shot.. too bad for the distracting bit on the right side (looks like light shining through or something?).. still i rate it a 10

The exposure is very good and I like the softness of the focus. The lightness and angle of her face make it the central focus of the picture and gives rythym to the picture. The hair hanging down repeats the iris leaf pattern and adds to the dynamic instead of detracting. The only thing that, to me, isn't perfect is the expression on her face. She doesn't look like this is something she likes and it causes some negative emotions within me.

Beautiful, distinctive framing without overpowering the subject. The pensive look works well.

Nicely done one of the better natural frames. The left eye looking through the gap works well together with the longer format

I love the expression here. Good choice of B&W - gives a more somber feel to it. I can almost see the smile wanting to come out though. Very nice.
