Spectacular flowers that grow well in southern France if the winters don't get too cold. This year unfortunatly mine froze. These are a new buy. I cut of a few flowers off before planting them to photograph them on a piece of black cardboard with natural undirect light.

Critique Club

Hi there, I have admired your photography for a while and am quite humbled by receiving one of your shots for critique:)

First off, I love this shot, the flowers have a glow to them that is very pleasing to look at.
Your composition is perfect, the placement of the flowers are right on.
Your DOF and focus are right on too.
The one thing that distracts me is the background, it looks dirty, cloning now would do this photo wonders. Not sure what you could have done at the time, maybe a black sharpie.
Thanks for showing me a flower I have never seen and good luck in future challenges (yeah, like you need it) :)
Congrats on 4th place too!

Weird and cool! The black background works in this photo, but I can see some weird smudges on it. The composition could be a little tighter. I would have even liked it with just one flower.

Too bad about the white specs, otherwise a 10

Very, very, very interesting flower! Super color and detail.

Great shot, well composed. These flowers are stupendous. If i give you a 10, would you be kind enough to send me some seeds? :) (how's that for a bribe, huh?) 10 Journey

I was thinking that any flower shot would have a hard time winning due to the competition, but the space age-ness of this flower combined with the technical execution (flawless) have changed my mind. If only I was a member... Soon... How did you maintain focus between the farthest and closest points? How did you get that black background? The three flowers, the way they are arranged compositionally, it's truly a standout photo.

Strange and wonderful looking flowers...Only nitpick is the white marks on the black background. Nice job on lighting this pic.

Now THAT'S a cool looking flower. Are those real? I guess they are judging by the title. High marks for having the most unique flower in the challenge. This is what the Flora challenge was meant for, not pictures of Daisies and Roses. - 10

Absolutly stunning. Not only is the subject something I have never seen, but the clarity and color is brilliant. I love the black background.

This is very good, but there seem to be some dust spots or something which detract from the overall effect.

There's too much noise in this photo around the top right of the frame. The border is good. The colors need just a little more punch. This photo for some reason just doesn't look that smooth. Very cool flowers too.

The composition and lighting are great! Super choice for the challenge! Your arrangement of the subjects are breathetaking. Only downside are the spots in the background! A 9, just missing a 10! Great job!

Very nice! I love this type of flower!! A touch of grain and the background needs to be more fully "wiped" out. Comment removed, my bad. 8 Rob the Swash

Beautiful. Very interesting flowers. Slight distraction from the white speckling in the backround but not serious. Good shot.

too bad there is a scratch or dirt in the upper right corner, it detracts and tarnish such a beautiful shot.

The composition of this image is absolutely fabulous! It is SO much more than just a pretty flower photo . . . and I especially love the little "touches" like the pollen on the petals of the flower in the foreground. Lots to look at and take in . . . congratulations on seeing a great design.

The pollen on the flowers surface is a cool effect. The composition is very good, only the white spots in the background are disturbing - 8.

You celebrate the beauteous weirdness of these flowers well through your excellent cropping and composition and by setting them in front of a black backdrdop.
