Challenge: Weather (Classic Editing)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 5700
Location: Weld County, CO
Date: Apr 11, 2003
Aperture: 4.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/1000
Galleries: Sky, Nature
Date Uploaded: Apr 13, 2003

A windstorm started up, with gusts 50-60 mph. Figured my only chance at weather, since the days had been clear and cloudless. Came across a irrigation ditch with water and a lot of snow left, just as the sun was setting behind Hallet Peak, and a rain shower blowing in.

This was a remarkable photo and I'm surprised that it didn't get a ribbon, and frustrated, as you must be, that it came soooo close. Great job. I'm adding it to my favorites.

that would look great on a wall, or even as the back drop of one of those inspirational posters that have poems on them :)

I rated this a 10 not only because it's just a beautiful picture, but because you have all of your lines focusing on a central point- the sun. This is a very imaginative and interesting picture to look at. Good luck!

I like the contrast of the lights vs. dark on either side, and the the colors are wonderful.

The more I look at this shot, the more I like it. I guess my only gripe with it is that it looks a cluttered. There's just too much to look at. Any of the elements, clouds sunrise or riverscape would have made a good photo, but all thrown together it looks a little over the top.

This is great work.. It looks almost unreal! The only thing that bothers me is the hill on the right side looks a bit washed out. Easily fixable out side the challenge... good score for you!

Very nice.. Think it would have cropped out some of the stuff on the bottom.. Just below the reflection of the sun. 8

Nice. Good eye. How did you take this shot? Are you in the water here? Maybe a little on the dark side. I like the opposing symmetry of the two slopes.

Wow. This is a magical photo! Where did you take it? I love the composition with the sun centered and the clouds coming in (?) from the left. It even looks like they might be rain clouds... :)

Fantastic photo and work -- my first ever 10 vote!

Sorry, but I can't say nothing more than "great". IMHO there ist nothing wrong in this shot at all. My favourite so far. Usually I dont vote highest scores for sunset shots, but this one is so much more. Great composition and spirit, with a perfect connection betwen the dramatic sky and earth. Good luck for the challenge! - 10

Wow killer colors here and what a wild sky! I'm not sure I would have centered everything the way you have, I would have placed the sun in one of the lower thirds either left or right following the rule of thirds - 9.
