This was a lucky chance shot. After a week of no sun or no time, Sunday night around 8PM I found htis guy playing basketball. I took about 30 shots as the sun set but when I took this one I knew I was done. There are bushes and I could have cropped it differently, but it lost some of its charm for me.

After the challenge:
I want to thank everyone for their comments - much appreciated!

As for the tilt: The net and support and man are all perfectly level (horizontally or vertically) it is the sky and the tree line that slant. If I had rotated so the sky or trees were level the hoop would have been way off. :)
This was kind of a test of monitors. If your monitor is calibrated correctly, you should be able to see his feet just barely at the bottom. You should also see the top bar of a fence on your right.
I honestly tried to crop the image more on the left to get rid of some of the tree and to pull the image off center. But something got lost when I did that. Maybe it is because I am claustrophobic. :) I also tried cloning out the tree on the right. That too did not work for me. I feel the trees restrain the image. Does that make sense? Now I am looking for a basketball hoop with no trees and a western view...
Thanks again!

For those of you interested, I hve posted my RAW image and my TIFF image in my portfolio.

An impressive capture with great subject matter and whose title is so closely related. The sunset is well treated to exploit the good qualities of the silhoutte. Certainly, a great wall hanger. Bump.

This is a very nice silhouette. You definitely get it! I especially like the pleasing colors of the sunset. Very nice job!

Colors are impressive but the cropping is a little off, wish you had equally cut of part of the tree on the left to match the right one. Image is also tilted.

Great motion carture. This is a tough shot to get i would imagine. Silhouettes are tricky enough but a stop motion one. Those are a little toughter. Great color, crisp outlines, and an enjoyable shot to look at. I would like to have seen a little more of the jumper though He is such a key element to the shot yet he is mostly hidden by the background. So please retake this and tell the ball player to jump higher next time : ) Great shot. very nicely done.

Very cool. Takes me back to college. Did you ever try a crop removing the right 1/3 and the top 1/3 of the image. I think that would look good too. Nice shot

My perception of the horizon is a bit titled. Awesome sunset! Great capture of the moment.

Nice shot (pun intended). I think I would have cropped this one quite a bit tighter - probably most of the sky and all of the tree on the left

great color and capture, a shame not to see the full silhouette of the player.

this would have been perfect if you could see the whole body. the trees in the background cut off the guys silhouette.
