Very nice photo, very nice effects but i am afraid that if u see the subject more scientificly you will discover that you can't use the capital letter Ð from the greek alphabet to represent the minuscule ð, it is not mathematically correct. But as an art, yes it is great.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi Achiral...

I guess it's my destiny to get this photo as a CC assignment... This is the best representation of this technique I have seen on DPChallenge so far, including my own with the "Liberty and Justice" photo last summer.

There are three specific elements that I believe are key to making this technique work effectively. 1) The water beads should be randomly dispersed and of different sizes. The glass treatment gives this effect nicely and it creates more three dimensional impact. 2) The background object should be out of focus in a shallow depth of field. This makes the reflections in the water beads stand out in a powerful way. 3) The reflections in the beads of water should be in focus.

The #3 part of this is the difficult part, because, in order to keep your surface image out of focus, you have to use a more shallow depth of field. But if you go too shallow, your water bead reflections don't stay tack sharp. Your image has perfect focus in the water beads and the background is blurred. To make this concept perfect, the background should be as out of focus as possible while the beads stay focused.

The first improvement that may have some possiblity here would be to experiment with blurring the background to the maximum possible while keeping the beads sharp. The second area for improvement is that I believe this would have made a brilliant color image with a yellow pi symbol on a black or dark blue background...

Kudos on a great shot :)

John Setzler

Old idea but still working very well. One of my favourites this week. Great in b&w, focus and cropping. I like the composition too. Very well done. Good luck!

I hate to admit it, but I'm getting a bit tired of seeing droplets of water refracting an image behind. However, I will not vote you down for it, because it works and it's often a good idea. In this case, the droplets kind of deconstruct pi, dissecting it into pieces that are no less intriguing than the whole of pi, so this water droplet technique really works here, probably better than in other situations because the droplets actually can mean something and aren't just a gimmick. Whew! Thanks for listening! And nice work.

couldn't you do something to not make the bubbles change the pi's into u's. jk bort.

It's a shame you can't see the pi symbol in the biggest water drop of them all, the one cut off at the very top.

Good refraction image. I like it a lot, if only those "pi" symbols could have all been centered it would have been perfect - 8.

Impressive idea for a Pi Challenge. Do tell us how you did this will you? Visual impact is stimulating to say the least. Focus is excellent in my opinion. Absolutely splendid black and white photography.

unfortunately the Pi in the droplets are reversed, I know this is not something you could control but it disturb this beautiful picture. A very nice shot though! Congrats

Fun entry. I like the repeating patterns. Although there is always one entry like this, you've done a nice job with your clarity of focus, nice use of black and white, exposure and cropping. Overall, I like the image you created very much.

Nice picture... really good lighting. I have to deduct a little because of the common theme (drops with reflections). But this is a very good rendition of it!! :)
