Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Five (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Location: santa clara ,ca
Date: May 5, 2005
Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/500s
Galleries: Macro
Date Uploaded: May 5, 2005

Photo taken around 11:20pm on May 4th, PDT

I cropped 50% of the frame to get this. I had my camera set for more smoke in the frame, but I like this crop better. Used curves for contrast enhancement and color-balance layer for a blue cast and another blue photo-filter. resized and sharpened.

Fantastic! I wonder how many people (like me) scored this high on nostalgia value alone, echoing as it does the much-discussed color-switched red, green, blue smoke image? Congrats and blue and 2 in a week.

While five spent matches don't usually pique my interest, you managed to arrange them in a pleasing way and the smoke trailing off is just mesmerizing. Everything is edited very well and the focus and DOF is spot on. Bumping up.

one of those wow shots. the details on the spent matchheads are striking, perfectly set off by the dissipating smoke. the arrangements of the sticks is evocative of a v(5) and that adds to the theme requirements. perfect lighting. i admire this shot and happy to rate this one of five 10s in the challenge.

I like the way that the blach match heads are separated from the black background by the drifting white smoke patterns. Not sure about central composition but do like the detail.

I've never seen matches look so good! Skillful execution! You're obviously a much better photographer than me, but I am wondering about the composition -- or lack thereof. Would it have been a stronger image if the cropping put the matches on the left and the smoke trail leading to the right?

Nice!! Centered - which seems to be considered such a no-no, but I like the effect. Sharp foreground, fuzzy background and lighting that gives it a 3D quality. Very nicely done!
