Challenge: Rock, Paper, Scissors (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon Digital IXUS 400
Location: G-D of Luxembourg, Bascharage, my bedroom
Date: Apr 19, 2005
Aperture: F/1,6
ISO: 1/40 sec.
Shutter: 50
Galleries: Humorous, Studio
Date Uploaded: Apr 19, 2005

Idea:
I started with the idea of a paper man pulling the scissors out of the stone excalibur-like, but while I set the shot up I grew fond of this idea.

Setup:
I took some of my mother's rainbow coloured paper and cut out these little men. I placed them around a mountain chrystal with the scissors. There are two light sources, a halogen tube from the left and my desk lamp from the front, which points upwards. The desk lamp light is reflected by white paper, the halogen tube light is reflected by aluminium paper on the right.

Post Processing (in PSP9):
Levels (0/0,73/223;0/255)
HSL (Saturation +22)
Brightness/Contrast (-3/5)
Colour Balance (-20/0/0 on midtones)
Crop
Resize
USM (0,50/80/0)
Saved at 6% compression

Comments:
There is noise in the gradient on the paper! It is visible on the gradient between red and blue, right in the middle. Now it looks as if there was noise in the photograph...
Thanks to Yorick for discussing the idea for the challenge with me.

I just ran across this. What a great take on the challenge (I wasn't a member then). This is really fun and interesting. I like your eye for detail. Good one.

Guess what? I too was going for the paper doll cutout and changed my mind at last moment. Nice colors but stone should have been favored in exposure as there is enough color to handle the extra saturation. Nice effect.

This is quite amusing. It's a pity there's so much of it feeling blown out. Good work!

The White is too bright
need to fix this

I really like how the color gradually shifts around the circle. That's effective. I think I would have liked the composition even better without the rocks, but even with them, it is fun. Creative.

Good Color Wheel balance. The rock (crystals) in the center seems to reflect the blues and reds nicely, but is not sharp enough to make an impact. 7

The cut-out people are terrific. You should have used a darker "rock" so it would appear as washed-out.

I love the colorful composition here. The figures dancing around the crystal is a fun visual. While the addition of the scissors seems like an afterthought to me, this is still one of my 3 favorites in this challenge.

This would be awsome if I could see the beautiful crystal. Perhaps a dark back-drop? and cropped tighter? Great idea!

Very humouristic approach of the challenge, and very well executed too. You've managed to include all three items, without making the picture boring and in a very original way. Congratulations. 9

Neat idea. They are of all colours, the same and the scissors are thier creator? Or am I reading to much into this? I like it.
