Thanks Dennis -- I was hoping for that, but what are the odds of getting ribbons in both challenges?!?! :)

P.S. The print is more bluey than orangey.. Looks even cooler after some playing with in Photoshop!

Congratulations on first place.

I thought your symmetry shot "Spooky" should have landed in the top 3 as well.

To everyone who thought this was some kind of miracle and couldn't figure out how I did it --

It was real easy.. Sit lighter on table, focus, turn off lights, 10 second exposure, hold lighter, strike, and move finger away.

I was surprised that my finger didn't show up. Guess at the point my finger was there, everything was still too dark to expose it, at the point the light source (the flame) appeared, my finger was already gone.

Thanks a lot everyone for the great comments and high votes!

Lovely colours, great sparks. You're going to have to tell us how you did that, but I think perhaps you used a sparkler? I like the way you captured the color of the lighter too. Did you also use lighting coming up from the bottom of the lighter?
A really great shot. Keep looking at it, and sometimes think that perhaps just a bit too bright in the whiteness? Great photograph though - so just ignore me!

Great capture of the sparks. I wonder if you could have done this without fluid so you only see the sparks without the that bright flame? All the sparks would stand out better that way.

The background is good. The framing is great. The sparks are a very dynamic addition. Just a little washed out on the left side of the flame. Solid 9

Its great that you were able to capture the flint sparking here. It really made a difference between a so-so image and a good one. Exposure was well done, too.

Nice catch. Great sparks. Great colours. Good sharpness. Very well done. My only suggestion would be a tighter crop on the left.
