I don't have a pet (modern life is rubbish).

Not sure about this one - only had a few minutes to snap away in a shop at an AIBO with no batteries. Cropped. Had to darken the back bits and do a bit of cloning & burning to get rid of some unwanted reflections (my reflection and some of the refections of the shop interior - nothing too substantial!). Bit of selective sharpening to get the nose sharp without losing the blur in the back of the shot. Bit of levels and slight saturation changes (desaturated the reflected lights to remove an ugly blue tinge).

Cannot get happy with the composition - hard crop gets rid of boring detail (and edge of frame clutter), but maybe loses some of the robotic-ness. Not a great image, but constrained circumstances!

I liked your creativity, I did give it a 5. I have seen the Aibo robot, but this was so cropped it didn't look like a dog...I even thought it was a computer mouse on a cradle of some sort...I am getting a little senile I guess.

PS Thanks to those who scored it more than a "one"!

I am a bit disappointed with this result - I have learnt a few lessons. In particular, not giving a relatively obtuse picture an even more obtuse title.

For those that asked, it is a Sony robotic pet - an Aibo.

I was in slightly constrained circumstances, and felt that the tight crop, shallow DoF, was necessary in order to achieve the idea of "portrait".

For a group of people on the edge of photographic technology, I am shocked that so many people were so ill-informed about the latest in robotic entertainment - but won't hold it against you :-).

The crop here is a bit too tight or the DOF a bit too shallow. I had no idea what I was looking at and had to enlist help to figure it out. After I discovered the ear, it became a bit clearer.

Not quite sure what is sleeping. My first instinct says snake but I'm just not positive. I'm guessing s apecial type of snake considering the 2 years I worked in a pet store I never ran across this type before, LOL :)

Thel ights on the ehad are very distracting, though the overall shot is well done. Also the red hue on the mouth area is very distracting, is is normally red? A 4

while I usually like tightly cropped shots, I think your joke would be more apparent with more of the robot dog in the frame. the reflections on his "face" are pretty distracting too.

OF COURSE!! I should have taken a photo of my iCybie!! At least he would have sat still for the photo (with the battery out, at least)!! Great idea!

Groan! I get it, it is one of those robot pets.... usually I would score low, but it is technically a good photo, so you get extra points for that!
