I'm going to disapoint those expecting a fancy editing process, it was a reasonably bright day, I was tracking this swan as it drifted below me from a high bank, I adjusted the shutter speed and aperture to avoid washing out on the feathers and obtained an almost black background from that alone, adjusted the contrast slightly and cropped.
Thanks for the comments and votes

I wanted to do something like this for "Minimal", A beautiful shot, very elegant. Interested to read afterwards how you processed the image.

Don't know if I like this completely devoid of background although the image is very attractive...

I'm not sure that I really like looking at the back of its head. Great lighting, though.

Brilliant lighting and a good pose of the swan. I find something wrong about the cropping.

Using a black backdrop, your picture relies on nothing but your min subject. The position of the dove is not really apealing.

nice placement of the swan in this excellent black background.

Ooooooh. . . .I'm rather partial to this shot. It resembles my "S" Stork picture for the letter challenge. Only yours is prettier because it didn't have to be in the shape of a boring letter :) Good luck, maybe it will win a ribbon too! I hope so! Good luck!

The way that the black background goes about it, it seems as though the swan is sitting on a black surface. I think that you could have brought out the whites a little bit more in the image. I like the use of negative space here.

Lovely swan. The negative space on the top really doesn't seem necessary with this image.

Great angle and white on black contrast but I would have preferred to have seen more of the swans face.
