Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Stock Photography II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 24mm f/2.8
Location: Near Reykjavik, Iceland
Date: Mar 15, 2005
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 400
Shutter: 20 sec.
Date Uploaded: Mar 15, 2005

RAW file processed with Pixmantec Rawshooter.
I then applied a curve in Photoshop, cropped it slightly from below and removed some lights on the ground.
Shot with Canon 24mm f/2.8 lens at f/3.5.

This is my first attempt at photographing the northern lights (which is a bit of a shame considering how common these things are where I live). The next time, though, I'll definitely try to include some foreground which I find to be somewhat lacking here.

This is amazing. I tried a few months ago to get a shot of this, but it turned out blurry. I need a lesson on long exposure. hehehe..

Congrats on top 10.

Til hamingju með þína bestu mynd og hæstu einkunn hér á DP til þessa.
Svekkjó að fá ekki border með þessa einkunn, en samt sem áður frábært að lenda í topp 10 í þessari keppni.

Congratulations on your best result on DPC so far. Could have easily been in the top three but it was a VERY tough competition. Anyway, a great Aurora shot but like you yourself said, needs a better foreground but otherwise flawless.

Outstanding aurora shot. I love the composition, and your capture of the starry sky makes for a beautiful backdrop. And I know how difficult it can sometimes be to get the stars "right" after reduction to web size :)
My favorite of the challenge.

It is like the earth has become one huge blast furnace, you know, with the hot gasses blowing from the chimney, still red hot.
Wonderful capture.

This is absolutely gorgeous, but incredibly "boring". It looks very well done though.
I'm voting it on the technical side. I'll give u a 7. The stars seem oversharpened.
