Challenge: Self-Portrait III (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: living room
Date: Feb 13, 2005
Aperture: 3.5
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/15
Galleries: Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Feb 13, 2005

i took the original photo, (the one on the couch) earlier this week for this challenge. Then I got bored with it and decided to give it some dimension. I printed it out on my canon i9900 in two pieces, taped it to two boxes and put it back on the couch in the same position i had first taken it. Then photographed myself photographing myself.

Post editing: auto levels and crop.

What a cool and cretive way to take a picture Awesome.

Was browsing along, and wanted to say that my favorite part was the lens cap in the back pocket. Then I read klstover's comment (below) LOL and still decided to post. But wow this is a really great idea. The white balance is a bit off but that's it.

My favorite part is the lenscap in the back pocket.

I think this is amazingly creative - and the orange sweater is what really grabbed me, but the room (color, tile/hardwood, blinds/drapes) really do take a lot from the shot - for idea it's fantastic - but it would have been nice to have a solid background - either walls without windows or backdrop or something :)

Very creative take on this challenge. A great shot indeed
04/21/2005 08:48:55 PM
Very creative and well-executed image. The addition of the lens cap is cool too.

Well this was NOT necessarily better than your first two challenges, Alison. It is VERY good indeed, but I think your Bridge was even better, and I think maybe you might too. 'Course, this one sure scored much higher! But I don't imagine either one was a fluke.

Very, very interesting! It raises far more questions about you than it answers. Great work!

How playful! One of my top picks. Love the many layers present and implied in this self-study. Environment would be a hinderance under most scenarios, but it works perfectly here. Lens cap in the back pocket is a perfect touch. Good luck in the challenge.

intrusting setup there are several ways to do stuff like this.....reminds me of a famous portrat by 1 of the greats- Daune Michals :"Portrait as if dead" 1968

sounds diffrent but if u see u will see the similarities

anyway very nice idea well done GL

btw is it just me or are there alot of photogs. that keep their lens cap in there back pocket

Certainly cute and filled with levity. This concept is so nice that i would have explored more variations to bring the couch even closer and perhaps absent the floor cover on the left. However, I am nevertheless pleased with this image. Bumping up.

A really clever idea that somehow doesn't quite work. Took a while to see what was going on and while it did evoke the kind of confusion intended I ended up thinking more about how you'd done it than about the picture. Beautiful model with an excellent choice of location, light and clothing colours which separate you well from the surroundings. 8

I like it. i think i might like it more if you went all the way (so to speak) and printed the rest of you. as it is it has sort of a "Boxing Helena" feel to it (bizarro cult movie...I digress)
Great choice of clothing colour against the pale background.

02/15/2005 10:28:38 PM
cool idea. I think this would have been much more effective if presented in a min imalist setting. in this shot, you have a lot of distracting background elements that detract from you as photographer and you as model.

02/15/2005 08:25:51 PM
Great idea, a bit over white in spots and the color ballance loks a bit odd, so those knock it down to a 9, ought to be a ribbon contender.

OK, this gets a good score for originality. This is very fun. You are about to lose your lens cap, not that I'm looking at your rear end or anything...

This is not only a very clever idea, it's very well done. I'm not really a fan of what I usually (and probably unfairly) regard as "gimmicky" shots, but this one really does work. Maybe it's the alarming lower torso amputation, but it's also the fact that the actual portrait shot is very good; at least a 6 on its own. Add 1 for the idea + 1 for the execution = 8.
