Oh. I had this second by a similar margin to which I had JJ's shot first; had it not been for the resident genius this would have been by far the most interesting shot in the challenge. Unfortunately, as I also found, the general voter's definition of 'portrait' doesn't quite agree with yours. You sir, in the brit vernacular, was robbbed.

I can't believe this didn't get a ribbon. Well, congratulations on your first place win, as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for all the super comments on my entry! I think it did pretty well for not being what you would call a traditional portrait.

Cool shot. Different. I like how you've included the windows and the completed shadow.

Any chance you'd switch places with me?
I like the clean feel of this photo. The large spaces, the white walls inside, the white sands outside, the feeling of the sun on my face.
The pose is also a strong point of the image IMO.
I would only change one very little thing here in post-processing.
I would make the shadows from teh windos, the same color as the shadows from the banch.
The two different shades of gray are not really necessary and I find them a bit distracting.
Very nice portrait!

Interesting how the shadows line up with the structure that creates the shadows. This feels very scandinavian, all that space, the big windows... The positioning is a bit confusing, but with the shadows it works well.

i don't know anything about portraiture, so i'm using your image to try to figure out what i think i would or wouldn't do in this situation, as well as what i notice and get out of your image.

this is really cool, more of a captured moment than a portrait. i like it. great imagery, wonderful use of light. the main thing i'm learning here is to be more mindful of places that can serve as backdrops. thanks for sharing, and good luck!

The lighting and overall feel of this photo is really great. It's one of those pics that evokes a great mood and draws you in. It would be a 10, but in the category of self portrait, I'm not sure that it is as strong. But a wonderful photo overall (9)

Good image. I think it will be placed high in faceless contest, but in this contest people want that you show him faces, so I suppose it will be scored low. IMHO, it´s a good image, but, probably, no the best image to this contest.

Returning to bump from 8 to 9.
Wouldn't be surprised to see this on the front page next week.
Good luck in the ratings.

Dear cripes, I keep coming back to this picture and liking it more and more. After thinking about it further, I'm not sure I could guess the reception of this image by voters, as the "you" part is rather small. You are an important part of the composition, but in some respects, it could be anyone, and is definitely more anonymous than many. NONETHELESS --! I return for the final bump to 10.

I think that is one of about five tens I've given out among the 3,500+ votes I've cast on DPC.

Really great composition. There are a few visible jpeg artifacts in some places (the back wall for example) but they arent too bad. 8
