Challenge: Self-Portrait III (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: My room
Date: Feb 9, 2005
Aperture: f16
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/5
Galleries: Portraiture, Studio
Date Uploaded: Feb 9, 2005

Taken in a mirror reflecting little mirrors below. Sighted using the theory that if I could see the lens the lens could see me. One of many takes--this pose pleased me most.

Would like to have gotten rid of the collar, but thought that too much. Did clone a few blemishes for vanity's sake.

Rotate 180. (Not flipped, as this is a reflected reflection it is not how I see my reflection.) Crop, levels, set black point, clone out imperfections, some burning to reduce brightest edges of mirrors, Hue and saturation to reduce greens and yellows, Hue and sat to shift reds (turns out I'm very pink), gaussian blur on dupe layer at 3%--70% opacity, flatten,, sharpen 250% x 2 x 0, save, resize, shapern 100% x 1.4 x 0, save for web.

Love the shot! Think it was creative genius! :-)

On a related note... It surprised me to find that I had a revelation while reading your notes. I don't think I had ever truly realized that my impression of my appearance (self-image) had always been a mirror image (or 180 degree variance) of what other people see. I'm sure this comes as no great shock to you and most other readers. Just chalk it up to me being blonde, but after 41 years, this finally dawned on me after seeing this shot and I have an entirely new perspective on how I'm seen. LOL

This is excellent. A great idea and well implemented. First I thought this was a mirror, but now I'm guessing it's a print. Either way, it works well. Wish I'd thought of that! 10 from me!

i don't know anything about portraiture, so i'm using your image as a guinnea pig as to what i think i would or wouldn't do in this situation, as well as what i notice and get out of your image.

very clever idea, definitely one of the more interesting submissions i've run across. i feel, though, the lighting is a bit too strong in some area, creating too much contrast between the near blowouts and the black background. all the same, this is something i definitely would like to try. thanks for the idea! 8 from me.

clever use of mirror tiles. I like the layout here. I wish the left eye was more in frame in its tile but this is a great shot!
