You got me. I had a feeling this might be someone going for the brown but I wasn't sure, so I preferred giving tips to that poor photog who couldn't handle his/her camera. Ouch.

LOL

At least it wasn't a STOP sign!

Congradulations on your first ribbon! (sort of...)
But who are the 5 people giving you 10's? They either have uncanny wisdom to see the "sign", or they knew it was so bad it would finish last no matter what they rated it. They were right. :)

Great post LOL, and great tips too ... but ... Did you notice that you also got 5 tens? :)

Never laughed so hard in my life. I tried in the light challenge. I never hit gaussian blur so many times in my life. I should have added an appel.

Thanks for all the comments and votes. Shooting for the brown? How did you guess? Maybe I just have a quirky sense of humor, but I adore the brown (ribbon) photos and thought I would try my luck at this dubious place of honor in DPC. I took the Road Sign IV shot based upon a simple strategy. Again, thanks for welcoming this newbie into the cool school of DPC.

what in the great glorious goodness is this doing here?
it's so far from meeting the challenge that it makes me want to bash my head with a sharp rock.

Sorry, but I can't see the connection with road signs at all...

02/07/2005 11:46:11 PM
oh geez...did you even read the challenge description? You were supposed to photograph a road sign not a cat playing with an apple...which just so happens to be poorly composed, poorly exposed, suffering from a severe white balance problem, and very badly out of focus :-D

Digging for the Brown! Simply super says, "Looks like you are a strong contender!" Watch out for U-turns, Crossroads at Night, and Where are the signs.

This picture doesn't meet the challenge. It has absolutely no link to a road sign, or even to any other sign. Did you mix it up with another challenge? What's more, it's out of focus. Really blurry. Maybe the macro mode on your camera would have helped your cam to focus on the subject. The flash you used creates quite a harsh lighting. There's a bright highlight on the apple and a hard shadow under the kitten. I don't understand your choice for the crop either. You cut both the cat's eye and paw off. I hope this helps you for your next shot. For this picture however, I have to give you a 1.

I am not sure how this picture relates to the challenge. And then, it seems to be out of focus and the lighting is problematic. Sorry (1)

Composition and making it a toned image is OK, but poor focus hurts this image greatly.

I like cats and don't mind cat photos. Unfortunately this photo is not very technically sound. Harsh lighting, out of focus and poor composition. Keep trying!

What? What? What? What country has roadsigns like this? What does it mean? What were you thinking? What? What? What?
Okay, in Japan there are road construction signs with photos of flowers and animals, and cartoon drawings of animals (I almost took a shot of an elephant yesterday), but always accompanied by text.
This roadsign of yours totally baffles me but I guess it must be in use somewhere; I like kittens and apples, but because you have focus issues, I'll have to mark it down a bit.
