My "New Ground" is:
Photographing liquid from underneath on a diagonal focal plane with nothing in focus.

This is actually ice floating in water and shot at an angle so the DoF fades them out. Sitting in the water created a dip which creates a nice play of light, which is then exaggurated when out of focus. White balance set incorrectly to give the blue colour. Levels adjusted slightly, and a crop, but other than that, no editing.

This is an interesting approach, but I think it would be a bit more interesting if one of the ice blocks on the right or left was in tack-sharp focus and the rest were as they are now. But that wouldn't really be breaking new ground, so this is a nice approach for the challenge. Awesome shot, I love the gradations of the blue-to-black.

This is pretty cool, a little blurred rather than super smooth but as I don't know your subject i don't know how hard that would be... 8

Very interesting abstract feel, and lovely shades of blue to black. I would also be interested in seeing this same image in razor sharp focus. GJ :)

Awsome shot! I would like to know what this is (looks like out of focus bubbles in a deep sea). I like how you've used the number 3 for the three major bubbles. I like the blue tones, did you try other colors as well? Excellent job!
