Greetings from the Critique Club. This is one of the most beautiful pet portraits I have seen on this site. The focus is spot on, his eyes are clear and sharp and the focus fades from there. His entire fur coat is soft focus, which relates directly to how soft it must feel in real life.

I love that his eyes are at diagonals from each other, this adds to the "tension" of the photo (for lack of a better word, I mean that it adds visual appeal). His eyes look a little sad, which is very appealing as well.

I love your use of black and white for this lovely portrait. Without the distraction of color, the entire focus of the photo are on the lovely eyes.

I am sorry that I can not give much critisism here, this portrait is close to perfect. The one, very small, distraction to me is the flop of hair over his right eye. If you would have cloned out just the very tip if it, I would have no further critisisms. Great job Ben.

Barbara

Thanks for the comments everyone. I recieved a few comments about finding the reflections in the eyes distracting. They are actually not reflections, but cataracts which are there permanently. I considered cloning them out but I think they are part of Charlie's personality and uniqueness so I left them in despite them being distracting.

I love this picture! I really like how you managed to keep so much detail around the whole face, all the little hairs, the shine of the eyes, yet also have such a lovely blurred background to set it off. And his expression ... his eyes just say, "I love you!". If I were to get a dog (next Summer), I think I'd like one like this.

Of all the pet pics, this one is best of the breed. Perfect DOF and lighting. 8

Nice soft photograph. The reflections in his eyes are slightly distracting because your picture draws my attention to the eyes. With that said, you photograph has good lighting, focus, and composition. I also like the use of B&W. Good luck in the challenge [6]

What a sweet shot. Did you do some processing in the eyes? Hope you are able to keep your resolution, you'll both be the better for it! :?) ....7....

Well Mr Konador, this is one of the better Dog pictures I have ever seen. Seems like you just happened to take this shot, and decided to throw it into the challenge, rather than actually taking the shot specifically for the challenge. To combat that you probably should have shown the dog in such a way as to imply you were doing something with him - i.e walking him. Of course a shot like that would be almost impossible to make as aesthically pleasing as the above shot. Considering, then all this could be said for any number of the images in this challenge, I'm not going to hold that against you. 9.

Yeah right! Bet your mum end's up doing it after the novelty wears off! Gorgeous image - lovely framing, nice use of shallow DOF, lovely light in her eyes... great angle to her head. CUTE!

What eyes. Like the full frame and the angle. Nice dof with the softness of its chest. Good luck and HNY.

Aww. Nice doggy picture, very good use of shallow DOF -- I must say the poor thing looks more stuffed than alive though, for some reason.

Lovely pet photo, but I find the reflections in the eyes a little off-putting... Great choice of shallow DOF.

Okay... your dog is freaking me out. I don't know why, but he reminds me of Michael Jackson.

A virtually flawless image, and an extraordinarily poignant one. I would only wish for a little more "life" in the dog's right eye (left as we view it). Well done!
